Overview


The Rocket Mortgage Classic debuted in June of 2019 and is Detroit’s annual PGA TOUR event. The tournament team is seeking to add smart and highly motivated aspiring sports management professionals as interns for the 2025 Rocket Mortgage Classic, held June 23 – June 29, 2025, at the Detroit Golf Club. This is a paid internship, and candidates are eligible for overtime pay (time and a half) for any hours over 40 a week. The Tournament Office is a fast-paced working environment. Tournament Interns must have the ability to work under pressure and handle many tasks at one time.

Each day brings new challenges, and interns must have top-notch organizational and communication skills. On a daily basis, the intern will find themselves working in a typical office environment as well as significant work done in exterior environments. The ability to handle physical tasks such as lifting boxes and manual labor may be required at times. In the weeks leading up to the Tournament, the intern will work around (20) hours work weeks; however, as we grow closer to the Tournament, work weeks will lengthen to eighty-plus hours (80+) and will include early mornings, evenings, and several weekends.Tournament Interns will assist with the day-to-day planning and management of the Tournament and will gain experience across all business units. Eventually tournament interns will focus solely on: Sales & Client Services, Fan Engagement, or Tournament Services for the 2025 Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Responsibilities


General

  • Work effectively with cross-functional teams to deliver executional excellence

Tournament Support

  • Assist in a variety of matters for project management including:
  • Internal meetings: planning sessions and brainstorms
  • External meetings: with stakeholders, partners, and vendors
  • Due diligence, desk research, and reporting
  • Project management and cross-department coordination

Sales & Client Services

  • This role will report directly to the Client Services Senior Manager

  • Assist in all steps of the sales process including contract agreement creation, CRM management, and activation of corporate client’s purchased assets
  • Work collaboratively with Sales Directors & Client Services team members to ensure all contractual obligations are fulfilled, such as tickets, on-site activations, signage, and promotions
  • Assist with the execution of various sales programs such as Honorary Observers and Venue Captains
  • Assist with the execution of various client special events
  • Assist with client meet & greets and daily client check-ins during Tournament Week

Fan Engagement

  • This cross-functional role will report and assist both the Ticketing Senior Manager and Media & Marketing Manager
  • Assist with content planning and creation to promote the Rocket Mortgage Classic, as needed
  • Help build marketing materials including emails, website content, and additional collateral
  • Aid in the production of tournament guides, including gathering photos, content, and ads from sponsors
  • Assist Media Center volunteers and staff, as needed
  • Assist with on-site photo credential printing and tracking
  • Assist with the ticket office supporting ticket fulfillment, box office operations, and customer service leading up to and during the tournament
  • Work with internal departments to fulfill contractual ticket needs for tournament sponsors, vendors, media, charity, and partners
  • Learn and utilize the Ticketmaster system to view, edit, and troubleshoot customer ticket orders

Tournament Services

  • This cross-functional role will report and assist both the Tournament Director and the Tournament Services Manager
  • Assist with local ticket donations to nonprofits and charitable fundraiser “Golf & Give”
  • Assist with volunteer program, including attending volunteer uniform pick up and all trainings
  • Assist with Player & Caddie Services as needed
  • Assist with on-site photo credential printing and tracking as needed
  • Assist with a variety of projects including PGA TOUR Player recruitment, special guest hospitality management, and title sponsor service assistance
  • Assist with preparation of various meetings, interviews, and presentations
  • Assist with special projects and requests from the Tournament Director

Qualifications


  • Able to work long and strenuous hours (40 - 100+ hour work weeks) including early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Able to lift heavy items (50+lbs)
  • Must remain flexible with an ever-changing, fast-paced environment
  • Able to think logically and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Exceptional work ethic and organizational skills
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail and process orientated while demonstrating expansive thinking
  • Flexibility to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Golf knowledge or experience is preferred, but not required
  • Part-time availability starting in March of 2025 (20-30 hours/week) and full availability (40+ hours/week) starting by May 26, 2025. This internship is a high intensity program and requires extensive time commitment. We highly encourage students to ask questions during the application and interview process about the commitment level
  • Provide own food, housing and reliable transportation to Intersport Office and Detroit Golf Club in Detroit, Michigan for all scheduled in-person hours. Candidates must have a driver’s license for this internship
  • Priority will be given to applicants who can work in person for the entire internship, but we encourage all applicants to apply
  • International applicants must have all visas and employment authorizations prior to the start of internship
