Job Title: Nutrition Educator
Work Location: NSO Clinics & Detroit Healthy Housing Center

Overview of Key Duties and Responsibilities:The Nutrition Educator will provide nutrition care to a variety of clients enrolled in our integrated behavioral health clinics, as well as our emergency shelter program. This position will perform nutrition assessments and develop nutrition care plans using Best Practices in accordance with the Department of Patient Food and Nutrition Services. The Nutrition Educator position will provide recommendations for nutrition intervention, participate in daily rounds with the multidisciplinary team and conduct nutrition education.
This position will display a high level of customer service, attentiveness and consideration to patient care while providing evidence-based medical nutrition therapy.
Essential Job Duties:
- Provide clinical nutrition expertise by nutritional assessments and documentation, in a timely and efficient manner.
- Assess potential nutritional risks and implement appropriate medical nutritional therapy interventions.
- Involves the client/family in planning objectives and goals for the client
- Provide nutritional counseling and education for clients and families.
- Maintains clinical nutrition documentation for clients in accordance with NSO policy and procedure, as well as state and federal regulations
- Participates with the interdisciplinary team in developing, implementing, and evaluating plans of care; attends meetings/conferences to discuss the clinical care of the client; and communicates client concerns and response to interventions to interdisciplinary team members
- Routinely inspects the food service area(s) and practices for compliance with company policies, procedures, standards, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations
- Assist with purchasing decisions for food, supplies, equipment, educational supplies etc. within approved budgets
- Provides in-service training to NSO staff on topics related to Nutrition and Foodservice
- Provides feedback and suggestions to improve company policies, procedures, tools, and reference materials to the corporate office
- Uses independent judgment and discretion on behalf of the organization in the performance of these duties
- Stays abreast of federal regulations for long-term care, dietetic registration/licensure, and food safety, as well as state-specific regulations for the state he/she works and incorporates into his/her work as needed
- Monitors industry trends, new products, current research, and new programs in medical nutrition therapy and foodservice and incorporates into his/her work as needed
- Other duties as assigned by Supervisor
Education, Licensure and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or related field, with licensure as mandated by the State of Michigan (Preferred) Or Registered Nurse with State of Michigan Licensure
- 2+ year of clinical experience
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook)
- Ability to learn additional software
- Proficiency in general office equipment (PC, printer/fax/copier, telephone system)
- Experience with electronic health records
Driving/Travel Requirements:
- Must have access to reliable private transportation
- Must maintain valid MI driver’s license/State ID
- Must maintain automotive insurance
- Must be able to visit locations while working for NSO
- Will be expected to travel on NSO time
