Our teams of talented designers work on challenging existing spaces as well as new construction environments and provide compelling solutions that push the design boundaries of conventional Senior Living and Affordable Housing environments.Our Baltimore office is looking for an experienced Interior Designer to join our Senior Living and Affordable Housing team.
Our next team member will have a passion for design excellence, excellent communication skills, and a dedication to client service. This individual will work directly with the Lead Designer(s) throughout the project duration and will be part of an integrated HCM project team. Our ideal candidate is passionate about creating hospitality-like environments and has the proven ability to see a project through from early phases to completion. The key to success in this role is self-motivation with strong time management skills.
About the Position
- Project Management: Ability to work on multiple projects independently and within a team; manages small projects with increasing independence. May collaborate with senior staff to develop timelines for development and distribution of project deliverables. May communicate with internal and external project team any changes to project schedule and/or scope. Maintains awareness of project financials including fee oversight. May manage junior staff based in scale and project type.
- Design and Documentation: Creates design plans, drawings, digital models, and contributes to the design process; develops a thorough understanding of projects’ design vision and uses space planning, 3d visualization, knowledge of materials and common building practices to create a design and carry it through to completion; Strong skills required in Sketchup modeling and cross documentation with Revit documentation. Review and understand with proficiency detailed construction documents including floor plans, elevations and sections, details, finish schedules, furniture floor plans, FF&E specifications, finish boards, materials and finishes to determine compliance in quality.
- Client Interaction: Meets with clients to understand their programmatic needs and style preferences. Represents interior design team in regular project meetings both internal and external.
- Coordination: Works with vendors and tradespeople and liaises with the project team and consultants; actively collaborates with and coordinates work of consultants to ensure the project deliverables are successfully integrated, and support the design concept.
- Budgeting: Establishes material costs per project. Establishes FFE budgets and adheres to plan as design progresses. Responds to RFIs during bid process.
- Construction: Coordinates efforts with internal CA team as well as with general contractors and furniture vendors; reviews shop drawings, material submittals and conducts periodic site visits during construction.
- Product Selection & Scheming: Researches architectural products, materials, and equipment for integration into project’s design solution. Ability to scheme and compose cohesive design concepts of flooring, paint, millwork and other finishes. Assesses new materials against client guidelines and applicability with specific project conditions; Sources furnishings and fabrics and assembles into a cohesive scheme that is then recorded via specification and/or in document sets. Occasional layout and assembly of material boards.
- Communication: Prepares conceptual and design development presentation. Expresses design intent, verbally, graphically and in writing to the internal design team as well clients, consultants and contractors, keeping everyone involved in the project appraised of its progress.
- Quality: Applies feedback to improve team and project performance; self-monitoring of work to ensure quality.
About You
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in Interior Design or Architecture
- 8-12 years of experience designing corporate, multi-family, hospitality or senior living interior spaces
- NCIDQ certification is preferred, but not required
- Excellent design, graphic and presentation skills
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written, and graphic communication skills
- Experience interfacing with clients and collaborating with Architecture and consultant teams
- Experience scheming construction finishes and FFE, along with fabrics
- Proficiency with design and documentation software including Revit, Sketchup, Adobe Creative Suite. Enscape experience is preferred but not required
- Experience in preparing construction documents and construction administration
- Excellent organization and time management skills
- Detail oriented and ability to multi-task. Working on multiple projects in various phases of design, in a fast-paced environment is a requirement for the job.
- Possesses general knowledge of building codes and ADA guidelines as they relate to life safety and space planning

Maryland Statement
The projected base salary for this full-time position is $83,000-$98,000. Hord Coplan Macht’s salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location, as well as the individual’s education, experience, and skillsets. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of HCM’s total compensation package for employees.
