Applied Controls is a subsidiary of FloWorks International, LLC. which is a privately held company located in Pasadena, Texas. As a Heat Trace Engineer, you will independently evaluate, select, and apply engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications. Performing assignments which have clear and specified objectives and require the investigation of electric heat trace systems, equipment and devices to meet those requirements, and appropriate material selections.
Some of the exciting things you will do in this role…
- Serve as Lead Electrical Engineer on a varying complex project(s).
- Provides input to basic project scheduling efforts with input from client engineers.
- Performs equipment selection research and develops recommendations with supportive materials.
- Prepares electrical engineering designs, including layout, design sketches, and conceptual design.
- Formulates technical specifications based upon department standards for procurement of electrical equipment.
- Performs and checks engineering calculations following standard methods and principles for projects.
- Checks Applied Controls drawings in accordance with industry codes and standards, contract requirements.
- Checks manufacturer's drawings, piping and instrument diagram drawings, one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, schematics, data sheets and similar drawings.
- May assign projects and tasks to drafters, designers and other engineers assigned to the project or a task, and reviews work progress and results.
- Researches and analyzes data such as EPC contract, customer RFP, Applied Controls professional services agreements, specifications, manuals, and other information to provide the agreed upon engineering services to the customer.
- Maintains a high level of understanding of departmental design standards, applicable engineering codes and Applied Controls guidelines and standards. Provides suggestions for improvements to Applied Controls standards.
- Conducts engineering cost, feasibility and planning studies analyzing customer needs and data including researching, investigation and coordination of other engineers, and providing recommendations to the customer.
- Responsible for scheduling, review, and coordination of design efforts with other project personnel in the same or other departments.
- Administers contracts for electrical equipment, including but not limited to electric heating cable, controllers. Monitor and plan for required submittal dates.
- Prepares specifications for heat trace systems equipment.
- Performs bid evaluations of equipment and construction proposals and makes recommendations for contract award.
- Responds to questions and RFIs from the construction contractor dealing with applicable electrical systems, equipment, operations and startup.
- Advises other departments of potential design impacts and interfaces.
- Plans for and participates in factory and/or site acceptance testing for electrical equipment and systems
- Coordinates design requirements with other disciplines and maintains engineering records and lists depending on qualifications and current needs.
- May serve as a field engineer assisting construction personnel in reviewing field installations of instrumentation and controls systems.
A must…
- Bachelor of Science degree (B.S.) in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited four-year college or university.
- 2-5 years’ experience performing electrical engineering in the industrial market related duties is required. Experience in field construction is desirable.
- Occasional travel is required for the purpose of investigating the site of the project, witnessing equipment testing, and meeting with vendors, construction contractors, or our customers.
