At Nautilus, we have a big and important mission: improve the health of millions by unleashing the potential of the proteome to accelerate drug development and enable a new world of precision and personalized medicine. We are developing a single-molecule protein analysis platform of unprecedented sensitivity, scale, and ease of use that we believe will democratize access to the proteome – one of the most dynamic and valuable sources of biological insight. To accomplish this, we are pursuing deep, hard science with an entrepreneurial mindset and creating a world-class team of builders, innovators, and dreamers across a wide range of disciplines.
The Scientist II, Phage Display role is a key function within Nautilus that is integral to the successful development of multi-affinity protein binding reagents by screening antibody libraries and identifying candidate molecules. You will help develop the screening methodologies to identify candidate molecules using phage display, as well as developing the functional assays to confirm the binding properties of these molecules. You will scale up and apply the existing affinity maturation process to our probes.

The successful candidate will work within a cross-functional research team, including experienced biochemists, bioengineers, bioinformaticians, and chemists. The successful candidate should have significant experience in screening antibody libraries and excellent communication skills. If you are looking for interesting problems to solve in novel and creative ways this may be the opportunity for you!

Role and Responsibilities

  • Develop antibodies using phage display in a high throughput manner

  • Develop a high throughput, scaled-up affinity maturation platform

  • Express and purify proteins, including antibodies, from various expression systems

  • Analyze protein binding and/or function using SPR, ELISA, HPLC, and other biochemical assays

  • Develop and implement high-throughput epitope mapping strategy for affinity reagents

  • Develop, execute, and analyze experimental results independently

  • Work cross-functionally with other scientists

  • Effectively present and report your findings internally and at scientific meetings

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • PhD and 2-4 years of experience, or BS/MS and 8 - 10+ years of experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology or a similar discipline

  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with phage display and antibody characterization are required

  • Experience with protein purification from mammalian and bacterial systems is required

  • Experience with analysis of protein-protein interactions using SPR, BLI, and ELISA is highly desired

  • Experience with structural biology and in-silico antibody design is highly desired

  • Strong analytical, organizational skills and excellent written/oral communication skills are required

Nautilus Team Culture

  • We are curious go-getters: this is a team of life-long learners who aren’t afraid to tackle the big challenges and we embrace the journey

  • We are detail oriented: we do great science by working smart & with diligence where we learn from our trials and mistakes

  • We are easy to work with: we want our workplace to be one where everyone can share their perspective and be treated with respect and kindness

Compensation Range: $126K - $182K
