POSITION SUMMARY:
We are looking for a principal engineer to drive the delivery of Swing’s goals to transform what the substitute experience looks and feels like through technology. You will guide the technical direction for Swing and have oversight in shaping its long-term roadmap. You will help scale our team, codebase, infrastructure, processes and products. This role will meaningfully impact Swing’s mission to ensure that learning never stops in K-12 classrooms.This will be a full-time remote position.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:● Identify technology strategic growth opportunities that enable Swing to grow as a business● Communicate multi-year technical strategy and lead the team in identifying further strategic areas for development● Set Technical Direction at Swing● Hands-on implementation of high priority or high complexity product and infrastructural solutions● Ensure that code you and others produce meets performance, reliability, quality, security, and testability standards● Advocate for best practices for software development, such as CI/CD, TDD, BDD, DDD, Design Patterns● Deeply understand the strategic direction of the business● Make technical decisions to solve business problems by drawing on ground-breaking technical experience, understanding of risk, and an ability to navigate different perspectives and priorities● Mentor others to solve problems and grow their technical skills● Collaborate with teams across the organization to accomplish our company goalsREQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:● 20+ years of professional software development experience● Breadth of experience across many software stacks and industries● In-depth knowledge of technology trends and are active in sharing knowledge, mentoring and coaching● Expert knowledge of Clojure, ClojureScript, Datomic● Expert designing and architecting software solutions● Expert experience building and consuming APIs● Expert experience in front-end development using React● Expert with modern infrastructure essentials like AWS, Docker, CI/CD tools, etc.● Expert developing and shipping production-grade services in an agile, product-oriented environmentSome nice to haves● Previous mobile development experience via React Native● Previous EdTech, startup, or online marketplace experience● New user onboarding and first touch tailoring experienceSalary is commensurate on experience and is adjusted for cost of living standards dependent on position location.
