Role Overview
Join us as a Product Designer at Promise, where you will play a leading role in establishing and scaling our design systems to create intuitive, consistent, and accessible digital experiences. In this role, you’ll leverage your expertise in design systems to build and maintain a robust UX framework and components library, ensuring scalability and alignment across our products and platforms.You’ll work closely with product, engineering, and business teams to define and implement reusable tokens, components, and patterns that embody our mission to make governmental and essential services more user-friendly.
While design systems are at the core of your work, you’ll also apply your strong visual design sensibilities to craft a cohesive visual language and brand identity that enhances the overall user experience. This role is an opportunity to lead the evolution of our design systems, empower teams to deliver efficiently, and contribute to solutions that improve lives by making critical services more accessible.
What You'll Do
Develop core components and tokens alongside engineering and product teams.
Build scalable components for new product verticals (e.g., payment plans, dashboards).
Collaborate with product managers, user researchers, content strategists, engineers, and design leadership on product direction and delivery in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
Translate product needs into systematic design solutions and reusable components.
Prototype component interactions for systems development and documentation.
Maintain design system artifacts, including Figma libraries, documentation, and tooling.
Demonstrate best practices in layout, typography, visual hierarchy, data visualization, and accessibility in digital interface design across multiple platforms and screen sizes.
Share early and often, gather and provide constructive feedback, and quickly iterate on designs.
Champion accessibility and inclusive design.
What You'll Need
3+ years of experience in design systems, specializing in scalable component libraries and tokens.
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent relevant experience.
A portfolio of work containing case studies showcasing thoughtful problem solving, attention to detail, and well-crafted design.
Experience with Figma, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
Passion for bridging design and engineering.
Proven ability to translate product needs into functional, reusable components.
A track record of pixel-perfect, technically sound design.
Experience managing cross-functional stakeholders and collaborating on enterprise or consumer product releases.
Understanding of design systems, foundational digital patterns, and the importance of user research and data science in defining qualitative and quantitative data needs.
The ability to break down problems and work within constraints.
A growth mindset and a love of learning. You’re open and receptive to feedback and can adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.
Deep curiosity around current products, trends, software, platforms, and hardware.
Bonus Points
Experience with accessibility standards and designing inclusive user interfaces
Familiarity with agile development methodologies and collaborating closely with engineering teams
Prior work with enterprise-level design systems for products in fintech or government sectors

Be prepared to walk through the system in detail, explaining your process, key decisions, challenges faced, and the impact the system had on the product development process and user experience.
