AMP's Recycling Robots


AMP is hiring a Facility Process Engineer reporting to the Site Reliability Engineering Manager who can be 100% ONSITE in AMP’s newest single stream facility in Commerce City, Colorado. The primary objective of this role will be the timely execution of commission and ramp responsibilities - leading to the standardized and reliable operation of the Denver, Colorado facility.  After successfully meeting contractually obligated performance requirements, the role will pivot to a reliability focus, acting as the on-ground AMP technology and process subject matter expert for commercial, engineering, and operations groups.

This role will be responsible for empowering onsite resources to consistently meet production KPIs through AMP technology training, facility configuration optimization, regular facility software updates, and proactive + continuous performance monitoring.The ideal candidate will have a diverse background in process engineering and/or field engineering, experience performing facility scale validation testing, a history of working with production operators, and demonstrated examples of data-backed decision making in a process engineering environment.  The candidate should also have hands-on experience with mechanical equipment, hydraulics, motors & other rotating equipment.  Any experience with industrial robotics, preventative maintenance, or reliability engineering is also considered transferable.As our Facility Process Engineer, you will work to:

  • With assistance from the Sr. Facility Process engineer and Site Reliability Engineering Manager, execute commission, startup, and ramp of the Denver, Colorado facility.
  • Execute both Software Acceptance Testing and Functional Acceptance Testing procedures for successful plant startup.
  • From off-site device commissioning to breaking ground; remain onsite and/or at the point of equipment production to ensure all pre-commission tasks are completed with 0 onsite rework required.
  • Drive lessons learned from each startup back to the Sr. Process Engineer, for distribution to the design engineering, asset deployment, and operations groups.
  • Facilitate the transition from startup to typical operations through training plant operators and facility staff on preferred process conditions and equipment operation (feeds, speeds, and configurations).
  • Work with Engineering and Facilities Operations groups to execute facility reliability and improvement plans - deriving plant specific configuration standards.
  • Perform before and after configuration change analysis - validating and verifying process specific performance parity or improvement across varying infeed compositions and characteristics.
  • Create and/or execute test plans and analysis - with the goal of consistently meeting facility level recovery rate, throughput, and uptime requirements.
  • Facilitate execution and communication of any/all AMP tech MOC processes (management of change) - ensuring smooth transition of changes across operators and operational leadership.
  • Coordinate and perform full system and equipment specific performance audits, validating AMP AI and executing on customer reporting requirements.
  • Train facility personnel on the operation of AMP developed equipment and act as a Tier 2 resource for plant failure escalations.
  • Act as the operational expert in core AMP sorting technologies and serve as a technical escalation resource within the plant - assisting facility personnel in troubleshooting internal AMP equipment and 3rd party vendor equipment.
  • Create facility operational collateral (documentation and videos) for training new plant managers and operators on standardized AMP theory of operations.
  • Train operators and maintenance staff on function and troubleshooting associated with the AMP’s custom facility control system and AMP sortation equipment.
  • Present AMP standardized processes to new AMP facility teams as designated by Facility Ops (such as infeed management, tip floor expectations, and data tracking expectations).
  • With the assistance of the Sr. Facility Process engineer and software teams, develop and action on standardized machine performance reporting, alerting, and alarming.
  • Approach performance reporting from a proactive posture, creating systems and processes to see and mediate onsite issues before they occur.

As the highest level technical resource on the ground in AMP’s newest facility, this role is pivotal to the continued success of the AMP One facilities business.  This role will develop knowledge and expertise uniquely available to personnel local to the achieved success and lessons learned within a cutting edge waste processing facility.  Depending on the candidate and project success, it is reasonable to assume this role grows to incorporate responsibilities across multiple AMP One facilities.

The successful candidate will have:


Required:


  • 3+ years experience in a process, controls, or field engineering role
  • Startup Experience - SAT (Software Acceptance Testing) and FAT (Functional Acceptance Testing) - creating and execution.
  • Hands-on experience with rotating mechanical, hydraulic equipment, and controls/sensors (preferably conveyors, balers, reducers, etc).
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated examples of real world data analysis, process performance testing, and system validation testing - production of technical reports and test plans for management level decision making and review
  • Experience with standard process improvement methodologies (ie. lean, six sigma, etc)

Preferred:


  • 1+ years experience as a lead operator and/or significant interaction with process operators.
  • Experience participating in and leading formalized root cause analysis exercises.
  • Hands on experience commissioning and calibrating industrial robotics.
  • Grafana or other data historian/database experience (SQL based)
  • Examples of technical writing
  • Networking exposure - TCP/IP networking (routing & switching, VPNs, managing VPCs, running and interpreting packet captures)
  • Experience with a wide variety of both batch and continuous process controls (chemical, petro-chemical, pharmaceutical, etc).
  • Interest in/experience with Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence and/or robotics
  • Ability to read and/or write any adjacent, modern, coding language
  • Facility operation experience
  • Knowledge of waste industry incentives and experience working in waste industry facilities or waste industry adjacent facilities.

Education:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in any engineering discipline

Travel Requirements: 


  • Initial 12 months may require up to 50% travel to familiarize candidates with AMP technology and current AMP facility operations.
  • Once the Denver facility is operational, travel is expected to be 25% or less, traveling primarily for knowledge sharing and/or resource cover down scenarios at other facilities.

 The candidate selected for this role will be recommended for a stock option grant commensurate with the position and the candidate’s qualifications.
