About the Role
CockroachDB Cloud provides CockroachDB to anyone who needs to scale fast, survive anything, and thrive everywhere. We're looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead multiple teams in our India Site (Bangalore) , the teams are responsible for multiple areas across CockroachDB Cloud offering. Some of the areas of ownership include observability, billing, marketplace integrations, reliability and more. As an early Engineering Manager in the site, you will impact how the organization is structured and built to ensure cross geo collaboration is successful.
You will partner with the Site Lead, HR, Recruiting and other stakeholders to create a culture of excellence and accountability in the site. Tightly collaborate with functional leaders and managers cross-geo and align on the priorities while maintaining autonomy for local execution.
You Will
- Help engineers successfully navigate their day-to-day by providing them the resources they need, as well as access to individuals who can help them accomplish their goals at Cockroach Labs.
- Partner closely with our engineering and product leadership to set the engineering roadmap for CockroachDB and our future products.
- Collaborate with managers across teams to tackle people management challenges, but to also ensure the coordination of documentation, marketing, and product initiatives as we scale.
- Coach and provide direct feedback to your team to guide personal development and growth beyond just technical skills. Managing performance and making sure that our engineers are achieving their goals is essential to retaining a high performing team of engineers.

The Expectations
In your first 30 days, you will become an integrated member of our engineering team. You’ll spend time learning about the different team’s domain, processes and people, as well as learning about CockroachDB and CockroachDB Cloud. We believe that it's essential for you to take this first month to become familiar with our technology and our company.After 3 months, you will be fully integrated into the team and comfortable leading the team’s execution in partnership with Product and Design. You’ll have built an understanding of the team’s tech stack and feel comfortable with the architecture and components.
You’ll understand the team’s priorities and roadmap.After 6 months, you’ll be ready for our next bi-yearly planning process, with your comprehensive understanding of our roadmap and priorities. You will be making sure that each member of your team is working on projects that align with both our needs and their interests, and able to partner with them to shape their career development.
You Have
- Experience managing teams in a remote office environment.
- Comfort collaborating with stakeholders across different time zones and geo locations.
- 12+ years of experience and 5+ years in people management roles.
- A passion for building relationships and are responsible for the welfare of the engineering team you manage, including their professional development and growth. We're looking for managers that want to empower the team to achieve their professional and personal goals.
- Experience working on technical user-facing products with frontends and APIs. Have exposure to SQL, databases and infrastructure software platforms.
- Comfort managing full-stack teams in collaboration with tightly-nit product-engineering-design teams.
- Familiarity with a programming language like Go for the backend and Typescript/React on the frontend.
- A solid product architecture knowledge and grasp how a variety of teams interactions’ may impact it.
- Been exposed to performance management, understanding the importance of building an effective team that can function independently, while collaborating and supporting each other.
- Partnered across departments, ensuring coordination with internal teams (e.g., with Documentation; Marketing; Product).

Reporting to BabuSrithar - India Site Lead, Senior Director of Engineering
BabuSrithar heads engineering and Site Leader for the India office. He is responsible for our growth strategy and is a cultural champion in the region. He is passionate about building high-quality software products and lean teams by leveraging everyone's potential. He enjoys working with people and learning along the way. Before joining Cockroach Labs, BabuSrithar held senior leadership positions at companies like Nutanix, Clumio and recently he was VP of engineering at Apty where he led the engineering globally.
When not at work, he enjoys his time with his 4-year-old and family.
Functional alignment with Jordan Lewis - Senior Director of Engineering
Jordan is the Head of Engineering for CockroachDB Cloud. He’s responsible for the teams that build, maintain and keep CockroachDB Cloud reliably serving the needs of Cockroach Labs’ most demanding customer base. He joined Cockroach Labs as a database engineer in 2016 when it was just 25 people before moving into engineering leadership and most recently moving to lead the Cloud organization. Jordan lives in his hometown of Brooklyn NY with his wife. Outside of work he enjoys folk music and riding his electric scooter around town.
