DESIGN has collaborated with a custom manufacturer seeking an experienced
Mechanical Engineer to join their facility in Hillsboro, OR. This company opened in 1979, and since that time has been doing quality manufacturing, machining, and assembly work for their customers. They are currently in a state of growth and have opened 4 branches in 4 years, offering advancement opportunities for their employees.

- PTO Policy: Employees receive 40 hours of PTO after 90 days. After one year, an additional 40 hours are granted (totaling 80 hours). In the second year, another 40 hours are added (120 hours total). Each subsequent year, 8 additional hours are accrued annually until reaching a maximum of 160 hours of PTO.
- Bonus Program: Monthly bonuses are based on delivered parts and forecast objectives, with amounts ranging from $300, $500, $700 and $1,000, depending on workload and deliverables met.
- $100,000 - $180,000 annually

Primary Function:
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering innovative steel products and engineered solutions. This role involves reverse-engineering, managing projects from raw materials to finished products, and solving client challenges through effective collaboration. The ideal candidate excels in both designing solutions and working hands-on in a shop-floor environment, collaborating with clients and cross-functional teams to bring concepts to completion.
Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities:
- Analyze and reverse-engineer existing products to create solutions tailored to customer needs.
- Lead the design, development, and production of mechanical components, ensuring compliance with functional, aesthetic, and quality standards.
- Manage projects from concept to completion, overseeing materials, processes, and timelines.
- Develop and execute test plans, including accelerated life testing and reliability evaluations.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams and clients to meet project specifications and address challenges.
Education and Experience:
(Knowledge, skills, & abilities)
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, preferably in steel manufacturing or structural products.
- Proficiency in 3D modeling and design using CAD software such as Autodesk Inventor or equivalent tools.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including machining, sheet metal fabrication, and welding.
- Experience with reverse engineering, rapid prototyping, and production workflows.
- Familiarity with quality systems and standards (e.g., ISO 9001).
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex engineering challenges.
- Creativity, critical thinking, and strong communication skills for innovative and collaborative problem-solving.
Work Environment:
Standard office environment with normal amounts of office related conditions. Occasionally may be required to work in environmental conditions that emulate typical user environments in order to facilitate design testing and validation. Occasionally may be required to travel as required to other facilities, clients or suppliers.
