DESIGN has collaborated with a custom manufacturer seeking an experienced
Lead Lathe Machinist to join their facility in Estacada, OR. This company opened in 1979, and since that time has been doing quality manufacturing, machining, and assembly work for their customers. They are currently in a state of growth and have opened 4 branches in 4 years, offering advancement opportunities for their employees.

- PTO Policy: Employees receive 40 hours of PTO after 90 days. After one year, an additional 40 hours are granted (totaling 80 hours). In the second year, another 40 hours are added (120 hours total). Each subsequent year, 8 additional hours are accrued annually until reaching a maximum of 160 hours of PTO.
- Bonus Program: Monthly bonuses are based on delivered parts and forecast objectives, with amounts ranging from $300, $500, $700 and $1,000, depending on workload and deliverables met.
- $70,000 - $110,000 annually
- Monday – Friday, flexible hours
Primary Function:
The Lead Lathe Machinist coordinates and manages the activities of machinists and takes active on-the-floor leadership in the areas of safety, quality, efficiency and productivity in the manufacturing area. The lead performs machining operations and trains Machinists to perform duties, as well as communicates with all production employees to accomplish the required operations.
Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities:
- Participates in planning and scheduling production resources (machinists and equipment).
- Participates in production resource scheduling meetings and communicates information to machinists.
- Participates in the training of new machinists.
- Collaborates with all other functions to provide feedback and improve production process.
- Provides technical expertise.
- Investigates and takes corrective actions when the process is out of accepted protocol.
- Reports all workplace safety concerns to the appropriate personnel and takes corrective action when appropriate.
- Ensures machinists are aware of and in compliance with all safety rules.
- Assists in coordinating non-production projects, including shop layout and infrastructure.
- Monitors shop cleanliness and plans organization of shop areas.
- Purchases items to maintain proper inventory of consumable shop supplies and materials.
- Examines parts and materials for compliance or defects or other quality issues, including verifying dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to plans and specifications.
- Coordinates and or performs maintenance on equipment and tooling as needed.
- Encourages an innovative working environment while motivating, organizing and encouraging teamwork.
- Provides leadership by establishing clear expectations and demonstrating high standards of work practices.
- Actively engages in improvement activities.
- Completes training on relevant quality procedures and understand his/her contribution to the achievement of company quality objectives.
Education and Experience:
(Knowledge, skills, & abilities)
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred
- 3-5 years of experience in hands on assembly of mechanical products and with varied production processes.
- Knowledge and understanding of machining and product quality standards.
- Competent writing, organizational and supervisory skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors and customers.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Physical activities can include standing, repetitive motion, driving, walking, lifting, pushing or carrying heavy objects.
- Ability to pass a background check upon acceptance of an offer.
Work Environment:
Standard machine shop environment with various types of machinery. Appropriate safety garments (PPE) must be worn. Must be able to stand and work as long as 12 hours in different positions. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
