cFocus Software is seeking a
Network Storage Engineer with 8+ years of experience to support and optimize the department's storage infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be responsible for capacity planning, performance analysis, and resource management related to network storage systems. This role includes determining system resource utilization, performing workload sizing, supporting the implementation of hardware and software upgrades, and ensuring effective disaster recovery strategies. The Network Storage Engineer will also oversee capacity management and contribute to measuring and reporting service-level objectives for the storage infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Capacity Planning and Performance Analysis:
  • Provide detailed capacity planning and performance analysis for network storage systems to ensure efficient resource utilization and optimal performance.
  • Assess current levels of system and application resource utilization and performance across storage infrastructure.
  • Develop and construct analytical models to describe resource utilization and performance across multiple levels of granularity, helping predict future needs.
  • Implement and support methodologies for workload projections to estimate future resource requirements based on anticipated growth and usage patterns.
  • Workload Sizing and Resource Optimization:
  • Perform workload sizing for new and existing applications, ensuring that storage resources meet operational and future application requirements.
  • Analyze the impact of new technologies on processor and peripheral storage utilization and overall performance.
  • Recommend and implement parameters that control the relative utilization levels of storage workloads, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity:
  • Support disaster recovery sizing activities, ensuring that storage systems are adequately provisioned to meet recovery objectives.
  • Ensure that storage systems are resilient and can recover efficiently from outages, contributing to the overall business continuity planning.
  • Develop and implement storage-related disaster recovery plans and procedures.
  • Implementation and Upgrades:
  • Provide support for the implementation of hardware and software upgrades to ensure storage systems are up-to-date and capable of meeting evolving requirements.
  • Coordinate with other teams to ensure seamless integration and minimal disruption during storage system upgrades and migrations.
  • Capacity Management:
  • Develop and implement systems for continuous monitoring and reporting on storage capacity and performance levels.
  • Support the analysis, measurement, and reporting of service-level objectives (SLOs) related to storage performance, ensuring that service delivery aligns with DHS requirements.
  • Oversee storage of capacity and performance data, maintaining accurate records to inform decision-making and future capacity planning.
  • Utilize capacity management tools and technologies to coordinate team capacity management activities, ensuring efficient use of available resources.
  • Reporting and Analysis:
  • Regularly report on capacity utilization, performance, and resource availability, providing insights and recommendations for improvement.
  • Support resource chargeback rate-setting activities, collaborating with other departments to establish fair and accurate resource usage rates.
  • Team Collaboration:
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including IT, application development, and operations, to ensure that storage resources meet current and future needs.
  • Coordinate and support the activities of the capacity management team, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.

Qualifications:


  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Experience:
  • 8+ years of experience in network storage engineering, including experience with storage capacity planning, resource utilization analysis, and performance optimization.
  • Proven expertise in performing workload sizing, system resource analysis, and resource chargeback rate-setting.
  • Experience with hardware and software upgrades, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning for storage infrastructure.
  • Strong background in capacity management, utilizing capacity management tools, and analyzing utilization and performance data.
  • Skills and Competencies:
  • In-depth knowledge of network storage technologies (SAN, NAS, cloud storage, etc.) and associated management tools.
  • Strong understanding of storage system performance metrics, capacity planning techniques, and resource optimization strategies.
  • Proficiency in the development of analytical models for resource usage and performance at various levels of granularity.
  • Familiarity with disaster recovery planning and business continuity strategies for storage infrastructure.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively to non-technical stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Ability to work in high-pressure environments, managing multiple priorities while meeting tight deadlines.
  • Certifications (Preferred):
  • EMC Certified Storage Engineer (EMCSE) or similar storage-related certifications.
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or similar virtualization certifications.
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or equivalent security certification.
  • ITIL certification for capacity management and service-level management.
