cFocus Software is seeking an experienced
Paralegal to provide comprehensive legal support to our team. The ideal candidate will have 8+ years of experience in a legal environment and will be proficient in case management, legal research, and supporting a variety of legal issues, including foreign intelligence, counterintelligence activities, and civil and criminal litigation. This position will also involve managing legal databases, conducting case-cite verification, providing blue book citations, and offering general paralegal support to the legal team.
The Paralegal will analyze information from case files, reports, and testimony to provide valuable insights and support to the DHS mission.
Key Responsibilities:
- Case Management & Legal Support:
- Provide case management support for legal teams, including organizing case files, tracking deadlines, and ensuring all necessary documents are filed and managed efficiently.
- Assist in preparing case files and preparing documentation needed for legal proceedings, including discovery documents and trial preparations.
- Coordinate and maintain legal databases, ensuring information is properly stored, updated, and easily accessible.
- Legal Research & Case-Cite Verification:
- Conduct legal research on a variety of issues, including foreign intelligence, counterintelligence, and litigation matters (civil and criminal).
- Perform case-cite verification and blue book citation checks to ensure the accuracy and formatting of legal documents.
- Analyze legal issues, case law, and statutory information, providing summaries and reports to assist the legal team in preparing arguments or legal positions.
- Support for Legal Issues in National Security:
- Support legal work relating to national security issues, including matters involving foreign intelligence, counterintelligence, and related litigation.
- Assist in research and case management for matters of significance to national security and the Department's mission.
- Collaborate with attorneys to develop legal strategies and analyze complex information, including foreign intelligence and national security concerns.
- Document Preparation & Legal Drafting:
- Draft and prepare legal documents such as pleadings, motions, subpoenas, and other legal correspondence under the supervision of attorneys.
- Assist in the preparation of discovery requests and responses, including organizing and summarizing evidence and documents.
- Prepare summaries and briefs of reports and testimonies relevant to ongoing legal matters.
- Project Support & Analysis:
- Analyze information from case files, reports, and testimony to extract relevant legal information and provide insights to the legal team.
- Support the team in preparing materials for legal proceedings, including litigation preparation, depositions, and hearings.
- Assist with any additional paralegal functions necessary for the completion of the project or legal matter.
- Collaboration & Coordination:
- Work closely with attorneys, investigators, and other DHS team members to ensure all legal and procedural requirements are met.
- Provide administrative support to the legal team, ensuring smooth coordination of all activities and compliance with deadlines and legal requirements.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- A Paralegal Certificate or Associate’s degree in Paralegal Studies or related field (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
- Formal legal education or training in national security law, criminal law, or similar areas is preferred.
- Experience:
- 8+ years of experience working as a Paralegal, preferably with experience in government, national security, or law enforcement settings.
- Extensive experience in legal research, case management, and legal support, particularly in areas involving foreign intelligence, counterintelligence, and civil or criminal litigation.
- Proven experience in case-cite verification, blue book citations, and legal database management.
- Familiarity with federal, state, and local court systems and legal processes.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Strong legal research skills, including proficiency with legal research tools (LexisNexis, Westlaw, etc.).
- Excellent writing skills, with the ability to draft clear, accurate legal documents and correspondence.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple cases or projects simultaneously.
- Attention to detail in reviewing and organizing legal documents, case files, and reports.
- Familiarity with legal software and case management systems.
- Ability to analyze complex legal information and distill it into concise, understandable reports.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for interacting with clients, attorneys, and other stakeholders.
- Certifications (Preferred):
- National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA) certification or similar professional certification.
- Additional certifications or experience in national security, intelligence, or federal law enforcement.
Security Clearance:
Due to the sensitive nature of this role, candidates must possess or be able to obtain the required security clearance.
