cFocus Software is seeking an experienced
Network and Computer Systems Administrator with 8+ years of experience to manage and support the organization’s LAN, WAN, and Internet systems. This position requires expertise in network installation, configuration, monitoring, and maintenance to ensure seamless network availability and performance. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing network infrastructure, conducting system maintenance, and ensuring security measures are in place to safeguard DHS’s critical systems and data.
Key Responsibilities:
- Network Installation and Configuration:
- Install, configure, and support LAN, WAN, and Internet systems, or specific segments of network systems, ensuring the systems are operational and meet organizational needs.
- Set up and manage network devices, such as routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers, to support efficient data transmission and connectivity.
- Coordinate the integration of new systems or technologies into existing network infrastructures, ensuring minimal disruption and smooth transitions.
- Network Monitoring and Maintenance:
- Continuously monitor the network to ensure availability and optimal performance for all system users, identifying issues and resolving them quickly to prevent downtime.
- Perform routine and proactive network maintenance, including hardware and software updates, patch management, and troubleshooting.
- Monitor the performance of network systems and services, ensuring they meet performance standards and expectations.
- Test and evaluate network performance regularly to ensure that the network operates correctly and without interruption.
- Website and Service Monitoring:
- Monitor and test website performance, ensuring that DHS websites and applications are running smoothly and without interruption.
- Conduct troubleshooting and resolve performance issues for networked services, applications, and websites to ensure continued availability.
- Network Analysis and Planning:
- Assist in network modeling, analysis, planning, and design to optimize the network infrastructure and ensure alignment with DHS’s operational requirements.
- Collaborate with other technical teams to identify areas of improvement and recommend network upgrades or enhancements to increase efficiency and performance.
- Provide expertise in the development of long-term network strategies to meet the evolving needs of the organization.
- Network Security Management:
- Administer and implement network security measures, including configuring firewalls, VPNs, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and access control policies.
- Monitor and analyze network traffic for security threats, ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of data on the network.
- Respond to network security breaches and collaborate with the cybersecurity team to mitigate risks and ensure compliance with security protocols.
- Supervision and Team Collaboration:
- May supervise and provide guidance to computer user support specialists and computer network support specialists, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and in line with DHS’s objectives.
- Assist in coordinating and providing technical support for end-users, ensuring high-quality customer service and timely issue resolution.
- Collaborate with other IT teams and departments to address technical challenges, share information, and improve overall network reliability and performance.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed documentation of network configurations, changes, and incident resolutions, ensuring that all records are accurate and up-to-date.
- Prepare and deliver reports on network performance, security, and infrastructure health to management, identifying areas for improvement and action plans.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for network installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and security protocols.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Administration, or a related field. Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
- Experience:
- 8+ years of experience in network and computer systems administration, with a proven track record of managing and supporting complex networks and systems.
- Extensive experience with LAN, WAN, and Internet systems, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in administering network security measures, including firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
- Experience in monitoring, testing, and optimizing network performance to ensure continuous uptime and service availability.
- Experience in supervising or mentoring computer support teams and ensuring high-quality technical support for users.
- Skills and Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of network protocols, technologies, and architecture (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, BGP, OSPF).
- Expertise in network hardware and software management, including routers, switches, firewalls, and network management tools.
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot network issues, providing timely and effective solutions.
- Strong understanding of network security principles, including encryption, access control, and secure communication protocols.
- Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to identify problems and implement solutions quickly and efficiently.
- Proficient in network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Nagios, Wireshark, PRTG) and network testing utilities.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical users and stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Certifications (Preferred):
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or higher certification.
- CompTIA Network+ certification.
- Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or other network security certifications.
- Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) or equivalent certifications.
Security Clearance:
Due to the sensitive nature of this role, candidates must possess or be able to obtain the required security clearance.
