cFocus Software is seeking a highly skilled
Technical Writer with 8+ years of experience to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating and writing clear, accurate, and user-friendly technical documents for complex systems and equipment. This includes producing equipment manuals, user guides, operating instructions, maintenance manuals, and other technical materials. The Technical Writer will collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure all documents are clear, concise, and meet the highest standards of quality and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Technical Documentation Development:
  • Write, edit, and proofread a variety of technical documents including user manuals, equipment manuals, system documentation, operating procedures, and maintenance instructions.
  • Translate complex technical information into clear and concise content tailored for different audiences, ensuring readability and accuracy.
  • Create flowcharts, diagrams, and other visual aids to supplement written documentation and enhance user understanding.
  • Assist in the preparation of appendices, specifications, and related technical documents as required.
  • Collaboration with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs):
  • Work closely with engineers, developers, systems administrators, and other SMEs to gather and analyze technical information.
  • Coordinate with technical teams to ensure the accuracy and completeness of documentation, ensuring all technical details are accurately conveyed.
  • Review and integrate feedback from stakeholders to improve the clarity, completeness, and quality of documentation.
  • Document Layout and Formatting:
  • May assist with document layout and design to ensure documents are formatted according to organizational standards and are visually appealing.
  • Ensure that technical documents adhere to the Department of Homeland Security’s formatting, style, and branding guidelines.
  • Version Control and Updates:
  • Maintain version control for all technical documents, ensuring that documents are kept up to date with system updates, revisions, or process changes.
  • Regularly review and revise documentation to keep it accurate and relevant to current practices and technologies.
  • Compliance and Standardization:
  • Ensure all documentation is in compliance with DHS policies, procedures, and relevant industry standards (e.g., FISMA, NIST).
  • Ensure technical documents meet the necessary requirements for security, privacy, and other regulatory compliance measures.
  • Technical Support and Training:
  • Provide support to training teams by creating technical training materials or guides as needed.
  • Participate in the development of instructional content to support internal and external training programs for staff and end-users.

Qualifications:


  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, or a related field (Master’s degree is a plus).
  • Experience:
  • 8+ years of experience in technical writing, with a focus on producing technical manuals, user guides, system documentation, and operating procedures.
  • Experience writing for complex systems, equipment, or software in technical, scientific, or engineering fields.
  • Strong understanding of document lifecycle management, including document creation, editing, and review processes.
  • Skills & Competencies:
  • Proficiency in technical writing tools (e.g., Microsoft Word, Adobe FrameMaker, MadCap Flare, or other relevant software).
  • Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) and version control tools.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex information in a clear, user-friendly manner.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate, high-quality documentation under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of industry standards for technical writing, including style guides and documentation best practices.
  • Certifications (Preferred):
  • Certified Technical Writer (CTW) or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with the Department of Homeland Security or other government agencies is a plus.

Due to the sensitive nature of this role, candidates must possess or be able to obtain the required security clearance.
