Computer Systems Engineer/Architect with over 8 years of experience to design, develop, and implement complex systems solutions. This role is essential in solving advanced application problems, system administration issues, and network concerns that support DHS’s mission-critical operations. The ideal candidate will have expertise in systems management, integration, and architecture to design scalable, secure, and reliable solutions that address the department's unique challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
- System Design and Development:
- Design and develop innovative solutions to address complex application problems, system administration issues, and network concerns, ensuring that solutions meet DHS requirements for security, functionality, and performance.
- Work with cross-functional teams to create architectural designs and system specifications that align with DHS objectives, optimizing the integration of software, hardware, and network infrastructure.
- Systems Management and Integration:
- Perform systems management tasks, including configuring, maintaining, and monitoring systems to ensure they operate effectively and securely.
- Integrate various subsystems, applications, and services into cohesive, efficient, and reliable solutions, ensuring compatibility with existing infrastructure.
- Provide expertise in system integration, ensuring seamless communication between hardware, software, and network resources.
- Troubleshooting and Optimization:
- Address and resolve complex systems and network performance issues, ensuring that all systems are optimized for maximum reliability and efficiency.
- Perform root cause analysis of system failures, downtime, or performance bottlenecks and implement corrective measures.
- Security and Compliance:
- Design systems that comply with DHS’s security protocols and regulatory requirements, ensuring that data and operations are protected from unauthorized access, breaches, and other threats.
- Implement security best practices in system architecture, including encryption, access control, and authentication.
- Collaboration with Technical Teams:
- Work with system administrators, network engineers, and software developers to ensure system designs are robust, scalable, and secure.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and architects on system design, troubleshooting, and integration tasks.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Develop detailed technical documentation for system architecture, configurations, integration processes, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Prepare and present reports on system performance, integration efforts, and design strategies to DHS leadership and stakeholders.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies, methodologies, and trends in system architecture, networking, and cybersecurity.
- Recommend and implement improvements to system designs and integration processes to enhance performance, security, and scalability.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
- Experience:
- 8+ years of experience in computer systems engineering, systems architecture, or a related role, with a proven ability to design and develop complex systems solutions.
- Experience with systems management, integration, and performance optimization, including troubleshooting complex issues and implementing solutions across various technologies.
- Extensive knowledge of system architectures, application development, network protocols, and cloud technologies.
- Hands-on experience with integration of enterprise-level systems, including hardware, software, and networking components.
- Skills and Competencies:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to design scalable, reliable, and secure systems.
- Proficiency in systems integration, network management, and systems administration.
- Experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and hybrid environments.
- Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure, including servers, databases, storage solutions, and network protocols.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices, automation tools, and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work in cross-functional teams and explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Certifications (Preferred):
- Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or other relevant security certifications.
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect or similar certifications.
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect or similar cloud certifications.
- ITIL Foundation or other IT service management certifications.
Security Clearance:
Due to the sensitive nature of this role, candidates must possess or be able to obtain the required security clearance.
