SUMMARY


  • J. Russell & Company, a leader in commercial construction services, is seeking a dynamic Senior Director of Marketing and Sales Enablement to lead our marketing department and drive the implementation of our brand strategy. This individual will oversee all aspects of marketing and communication, implementing our strategic marketing efforts and supporting business development initiatives. Reporting directly to Michael B. Russell, the Senior Director of Marketing and Sales Enablement, will manage a small team, including the Communications & ABM Manager and Sales Enablement Manager, to ensure cohesive and aligned marketing efforts across the organization. This role requires a hands-on leader who can manage the marketing function and contribute to company-wide objectives.
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    • Strategic Marketing Leadership: Work with the firm’s Fractional CMO (or equivalent) to implement a comprehensive marketing strategy aligned with business objectives and ABM strategy, positioning H. J. Russell & Company as a trusted partner to public and private owners and other construction companies.
    • Team Management and Development: Lead and mentor the marketing team, specifically overseeing the Communications & ABM Manager and Sales Enablement Manager. Work collaboratively with both roles to ensure a cohesive approach to brand visibility, account-based marketing, and sales enablement. Facilitate their growth within their positions, fostering cross-departmental collaboration and alignment with company objectives.
    • Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate relationships with internal stakeholders, helping educate teams on sales and marketing best practices. Strengthen the marketing department’s visibility and role as a strategic partner within the firm.
    • Brand and Content Management: Oversee the implementation of the brand strategy, ensuring all marketing materials and communications reflect H. J. Russell & Company’s values and market position. Working with the firm’s outside marketing agency, help guide the development of high-quality, targeted ABM campaigns, proposal content, and presentations that align with the company’s sales goals and market presence.
    • Campaign and Project Management: Coordinate the efforts of the Communications & ABM Manager and Sales Enablement Manager to execute top-of-funnel and sales-aligned initiatives. Lead and support high-stakes proposal submissions, ensuring that sales enablement materials meet the highest standards and effectively support business development objectives.
    • Market Insights and Data Analysis: Conduct market research to identify trends, competitor actions, and customer insights, ensuring strategies align with industry changes and client needs. Use data to drive marketing decisions, track ROI, and provide actionable insights to the sales team.
    • Public Relations and Communications: Manage media relationships, press releases, and external communications, building the company’s reputation as an industry leader. Coordinate with the Communications & ABM Manager to maintain a strong and cohesive external brand presence.
    • Agency and Vendor Management: Source and manage external agencies, including PR, digital marketing, and technology providers. Ensure external partners deliver high-quality, cost-effective work that aligns with the company’s standards and strategic goals.
    • Performs work in a safe manner and actively encourages others to do the same. 

    Authority:

    • The Senior Director of Marketing will oversee the implementation of Russell brand’s strategic direction, supervise the Communications & ABM and Sales Enablement Managers, and be accountable for the department's alignment with the firm’s sales and business development objectives.

    Essential Attributes:


    • Strong knowledge of marketing best practices, with a focus on B2B strategy, brand positioning, and digital marketing including ABM, project pursuit strategy, proposal development, and interview coaching.
    • 10+ years of direct AEC marketing and sales enablement experience, preferably with another construction company.
    • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, with a collaborative approach to managing a team.
    • Can-do positive attitude.
    • Ability to multi-task and to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
    • Willingness to occasionally work additional time when needed to meet deadlines
    • Professional communication skills – verbal, written, presentation, etc.
    • Strong desire to learn new skills and teach others.
    • Shows initiative, drive and focus.
    • A consistently GREAT attitude.
    • Ensures personal compliance with company policies and procedures.
    • Ensures that leadership and internal stakeholders are kept fully informed regarding related marketing activities.
    • The successful candidate must be able to balance the management of big-picture growth initiatives with day-to-day content generation and sales support. This position will require a high comfort level with automation tools and marketing technologies.
    • A solid track record in multi-channel project management, B2B copywriting (AEC preferred), event planning, social media, web management, public relations, and graphic design is essential to succeed in this role.

    Education & Experience:


    Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or a related field.10+ years of AEC marketing experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role managing supporting staff.Strong organizational, project management, and communication skills.Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office.The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
