This is a unique opportunity to help shape ASG and its expansion into Ireland and Europe.Role Overview: As a Principal Tooling Engineer at ASG, you will be responsible for leading the design, development, and implementation of tooling solutions for the molding, assembly, and packaging of commercial devices. You will leverage your advanced technical expertise and leadership skills to take on complex and high-impact projects while guiding and mentoring junior team members. Reporting directly to the General Manager of ASG Europe, you will ensure that tooling solutions are designed to meet industry standards and client requirements, with a focus on efficiency, safety, and innovation.Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Expertise in Tooling Engineering:
- Lead or act as a subject matter expert in injection molding tooling.
- Stay updated on trends and emerging technologies in injection molding, including micro-molding.
- Collaborate with acquirers, suppliers, and solution delivery teams to provide technical expertise.
- Project Leadership & Management:
- Establish project technical scope, priorities, and execution sequences, aligning team skills with project goals.
- Inform and consult with project, supplier, and acquirer leadership on project status, challenges, and solutions.
- Ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and on budget.
- Design & Engineering:
- Analyze stakeholder needs and conduct design reviews with teams, suppliers, and acquirers.
- Implement and review CAD-generated drawings and schematics.
- Lead risk management activities including FMEA, FTA, and Control Plans.
- Delivery & Implementation:
- Design, engineer, and validate tooling, automated assembly, and packaging solutions for production readiness.
- Oversee procurement, fabrication, and integration activities to ensure production readiness.
- Verification & Testing:
- Participate in the execution and review of verification activities, including DOE.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and quality control.
- Advocacy & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Engage suppliers as active stakeholders and advocate for client interests.
- Provide insights on the impact of product design on manufacturing, assembly, and packaging.
- Team Development & Mentorship:
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and interns, fostering a culture of growth and collaboration.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience: 5-10 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on tooling, automation, and design for manufacturing in medical or technological industries.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Expertise in pharmaceutical/medical device tooling and assembly automation.
- Strong understanding of injection molding, material flows, safety by design, quality by design, pneumatics, and intelligent actuators.
- Ability to lead tooling projects from concept to production, ensuring compliance with performance and cosmetic requirements.
- Experience collaborating across teams (e.g., supply management, product design, manufacturing) to refine designs for manufacturability.
- Proficient in CAD, schematic analysis, and risk management techniques (e.g., FMEA, FTA).
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and systems engineering skills.
- Excellent communication and project management skills, with the ability to lead complex projects independently.

Travel Requirements:
- Based in Ireland or Europe.
- Work from home with up to 25% international travel to client facilities as required.
