Cleared On Site Systems Engineer SME (4026)

Are you an experienced
Systems Engineer looking to work with cutting-edge IT solutions in a mission-critical environment? As a Systems Engineer (SME), you will play a key role in managing and enhancing IT infrastructure for the Federal Law Enforcement Laboratory Division, ensuring high availability, security, and performance. This is an exciting opportunity to lead innovation and operational excellence in support of national security. This role is on site in Quantico, VA.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of complex IT infrastructure systems, including servers, storage, and virtualization environments.
  • Manage infrastructure tools and applications such as Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager, Hyper-V, Citrix, WSUS, BigFix, NetApp, Dell Unity, and Dell Avamar.
  • Optimize systems performance, troubleshoot critical issues, and implement improvements to ensure seamless IT operations.
  • Support cloud integration initiatives to facilitate migration to hybrid environments.
  • Ensure compliance with IT security protocols, managing system access, patching, backups, and disaster recovery.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to align system architecture with business and technical objectives.
  • Document system designs, processes, and performance metrics to enable continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
  • Lead lifecycle management for infrastructure systems, including upgrades, updates, and retirement of obsolete systems.

Required Skills / Experience: 


  • 10+ years of experience in systems engineering, IT infrastructure management, or related technical disciplines.
  • Expertise in managing infrastructure solutions such as:
  • Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager
  • Hyper-V, Citrix, WSUS, BigFix
  • NetApp, Dell Unity, Dell Avamar
  • Experience with server operating systems, including Windows Server 2019 and Red Hat Linux.
  • Proven ability to design and manage virtualization platforms, disaster recovery solutions, and failover cluster systems.
  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and performance optimization skills.
  • Active Top-Secret Clearance with SCI eligibility.

Desired Skills/Experience:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Relevant certifications, such as:
  • AWS Solutions Architect
  • Azure Solutions Architect
  • CISSP, CISM, or CASP+.
  • Experience working with forensic or scientific applications.
  • Familiarity with hybrid IT environments, cloud solutions, and automation tools.
