SMX is seeking an Internal Control Analyst to play a vital role in supporting the US Navy by providing administrative oversight of the Quality Assurance (QA) Program assistance and advice to the Financial Manager (FM) and DoD staff.
This position requires a DoD TS/SCI security clearance which requires US citizenship for work on DoD contracts.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Quality Assurance and Internal Controls
- Compliance Assurance: Ensures adherence to federal, state, and local regulations, as well as internal policies and procedures
- Risk Assessment: Identifies and assesses potential risks to financial operations
- Control Design and Implementation: Develops and implements effective internal controls to mitigate risks
- Monitoring and Testing: Conducts regular reviews and tests of internal controls to ensure their effectiveness
- Corrective Action: Takes timely corrective action to address control deficiencies
Financial Analysis and Reporting
- Financial Analysis: Analyzes financial data to identify trends, variances, and potential issues
- Financial Reporting: Prepares accurate and timely financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Develops and manages budgets, forecasts, and financial plans
- Cost Analysis: Analyzes costs to identify opportunities for savings and efficiencies
Fraud Prevention and Detection
- Fraud Risk Assessment: Identifies potential fraud risks and develops mitigation strategies
- Fraud Investigation: Conducts investigations into suspected fraud, waste, and abuse
- Fraud Awareness and Training: Educates employees on fraud prevention and detection techniques
- Fraud Reporting: Establishes and maintains a confidential reporting hotline for employees to report suspected fraud
Training and Development
- Training Needs Assessment: Identifies training needs based on performance gaps and regulatory requirements
- Training Program Development: Develops and delivers training programs on financial topics, including accounting, budgeting, and internal controls
- Training Delivery: Conducts training sessions using various methods, such as classroom instruction, online courses, and hands-on exercises
- Performance Evaluation: Evaluates employee performance and provides feedback on financial skills and knowledge
Required Skills & Experience
- Required Clearance: TS/SCI
- 7-12 years experience as an Internal Control Analyst or similar profession
- Experience in collecting and analyzing data effectively, efficiently, and accurately
- Experience in applying procedures & directives by reading & interpreting program material
- Experience in presenting formal training presentations and briefings, PowerPoint / Excel
- Ability to prepare reports and presentation formats
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in accounting, business, finance, economics, math, statistics, industrial management, marketing, quantitative methods, and/or organizational management
- Strong Microsoft Suite skills (365)
- Positive, can-do attitude
Desired Skills & Experience
- Certification: Industrial Business Certifications in Accounting and Finance Management shall be considered
