Associate Quantitative Researcher/Developer

This Quantitative Developer role contributes to the objectives of our Hedge & Liability Analytics and Attributions team which has responsibility for separate internal systems within our infrastructure; our liability system, our financial markets security master system, and our derivative and liability modeling system.


Primarily this role will act as a support to the system owners, rotate amongst all three areas and gain exposure to a broad spectrum of subject matter within Quantitative Research, Development and Analysis.


The incumbent will be exposed to variable annuity modeling, derivatives valuation, pricing models and financial markets. This role will focus on maintenance, daily system support, testing new features and analysis of test data and grow with a strong leaning toward coding and development for the purpose of finding systematic, scalable solutions for driving business value and automating business processes.


Primary responsibilities will include:


  • Assist in the implementation of practical valuation solutions for the business to utilize.
  • Work toward attaining a high level of knowledge of the derivatives, liabilities and/or investments contained in the company portfolio.
  • Utilize code libraries for market consistent valuations, statistics, solving optimization problems, analytics and attributions.
  • With guidance from senior colleagues, enhance tools required to analyze strategic hedging, investment and business decisions.
  • Work toward developing a strong knowledge of market parameters and their impact on the value of VA Products and financial/derivative instruments within the company portfolio.
  • Assist in performing research, ad-hoc analysis and reporting as needed.
  • Contribute to the application of scalable technology to support the business and enhance the efficiency of our main profit centers.
  • Assist in managing large data sets and testing new system components and features.
  • Assist in the maintenance of systems and code including debugging and troubleshooting systems issues as needed.
  • Perform daily production tasks as needed.

Key Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree; plus 1+ years of experience in a highly technical quantitative field (Financial Engineering, Quantitative Finance, Mathematics, Computer Science, Finance, Actuarial Science) with an orientation toward scalable computational disciplines such as Computational Finance, Modeling, Stochastic Simulation, Econometrics/Regression or formal advanced education in any of the above disciplines. 
  • Strong aptitude for quantitative/analytic reasoning and problem-solving abilities, including original creative thought and being able to think “outside the box”.
  • Strong interest in Finance or the Actuarial sciences especially in particular areas such as Derivatives, Fixed Income, Equities, Capital Markets and Variable Annuities.
  • Strong interest in modeling, particularly computational modeling, such as cash flow models, stochastic models, statistical models, particle models, mathematical models, physics engines, etc.
  • Working knowledge of systems and database design and development principles, optimization and technologies.
  • Computer programming experience in C#, C++, Python, Java, etc
  • Working Knowledge of reporting tools, SQL and PowerBI Suite in particular.
  • Working Knowledge of AWS technologies, and data analysis utilizing either Python or R.
