Principal Technical Product Manager, AI

Toast’s Technical Product Team is looking for a Product Manager who is passionate about AI and the opportunities it offers.  AI is a key competitive differentiator for Toast, and has been enabled by our AI Platform.  As an AI Product Manager you will deeply understand how to uplevel GenAI features by providing teams with the necessary tooling & infrastructure to deliver best-in-class GenAI products.  You will be instrumental in unlocking ML products across Toast by ensuring our team of Data Scientists have the tooling and infrastructure to be successful.  Along the way you will research and seed successful customer experimentations, and force multiply across Toast with our AI Platform.You will partner closely with Product Managers, Engineering, Data Science, and UX to help realize Toast’s overall vision for AI.

You will research and advocate for innovative applications of both “Generative” and “Traditional” ML, while also understanding industry trends and best practices.  This is a high visibility role with interest from our c-suite and senior leadership teams.  You will have the opportunity to make a real impact at a fast-paced and dynamic organization.

About this roll* (Responsibilities) 


  • Convey your vision through well researched product roadmaps, working closely with product leaders and engineers, and participate in all levels of team planning.
  • Plan a technical roadmap for infrastructure & tooling, including meeting the needs of engineers and data scientists for increased functionality and improved experience, keeping in mind reusability, scale, and growth.
  • Work cross-functionally and cross-team to scale Toast’s AI products by evangelizing the AI Platform.
  • Work with engineering to plan sprints, write user stories, and test product features, and manage releases of product features.
  • Prepare executive-level presentations on your product strategy, roadmap, execution, and launch plans.
  • Keep your product ‘north star’ firmly at the forefront of your team’s vision.

Do you have the right ingredients*? (Requirements)


  • 5+ years of PM experience working on highly visible initiatives, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ship great products.
  • 2+ years of experience developing and launching products and services within the AI space.
  • Demonstrated experience taking team strategy into account when making roadmap decisions and effectively communicating those strategic ties to both technical team members and c-suite executives.
  • A proven track record of solving amorphous problems, listening to and organizing large amounts of information into a coherent plan forward, and handling difficult prioritizations.
  • You facilitate critical conversations with ease; you have no trouble working with and juggling the (at times) competing priorities of multiple teams operating in different countries.
  • You build and cultivate healthy relationships with partners and keep teammates informed and engaged. You customize your communication style based on your audience and easily switch between verbal and written communication as needed.

Special sauce* (nice to haves):


  • Master's degree in a related field (Computer Science, Business Administration, Statistics, etc.)
  • Experience launching products for developers.
  • Experience launching 0-1 AI related products.
  • Proven experience working with the hospitality industry.
  • Proven knowledge of Generative AI.

The starting salary will be determined based on skills and experience. In addition to base salary, our total rewards components include cash compensation (overtime, bonus/commissions if eligible), equity, and benefits.Pay Range$146,000—$234,000 USD
