THE OPPORTUNITY
This role is a key position reporting to the Chief Strategy Officer. The successful candidate will be a highly experienced leader with the ability to implement corporate and alliance strategy from providing analytical insights to enable corporate decision making to leading an alliance(s)with a major pharmaceutical partner, supported by an alliance culture and mindset, uniting independent functions within each organization to ensure activities are coordinated, decisions are made, and resources are leveraged to achieve the goals of the alliance(s) and corporate strategy.
The ideal candidate would be highly adaptable and a proactive problem-solver who has experience in supporting (1) pharmaceutical programs through all the stages of product development including research, clinical and commercialization; (2) business modelling and analysis to enable portfolio, operations and business strategy decision making.
WHAT YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE
Alliance Management
- Serve as alliance manager and alliance single point of contact, managing and directing joint governance activities, working closely with internal team members and senior leaders, and alliance counterpart to manage and advance joint goals and deliverables, contract issues, and overall health and success of the collaboration.
- Oversee and support collaboration governance and operating standards, including forming, managing and supporting joint committees and project teams.
- In collaboration with Finance and Legal, be the internal expert on all aspects of the alliance, including the relevant contractual and business agreements, and provide guidance internally to help toward success of, and compliance with respect to, the alliance.
- Ensure that strategies and decisions adopted by the governance committees are implemented and that plans/actions are consistent with contractual agreements.
- Proactively identify and resolve conflicts as needed or raise conflicts and disputes to appropriate management or committees for timely resolution while maintaining collaborative working relationships.
- Support the Finance team as they proactively track, monitor and communicate contract achievements, obligations and any financial payments to Arcturus’ Management Team, and collaboration programs are on track to meet contractual obligations and landmarks.
- Support the continual development, improvement and implementation of internal tools, systems, processes, reporting and standard methodologies for the smooth operation of the alliance management function.
- Responsible for partnerships including direct management of complex alliances as well as coaching and mentoring of others with alliance management responsibilities
- Review contract pre-execution to assess alignment with common understanding of deliverables, timelines, and go/no go criteria post deal closure; recommend fit for purpose governance and capture all potential relationship risks
- Lead the launches of new partnerships and the ongoing governance of existing alliances. Committee members will include executives from various functions within Arcturus and from the alliance partners. Ensure that all joint committees have shared goals, expectations, operating principles, and performance metrics.
- Monitor all alliance related activities and lead joint teams in resolving issues regarding effective communication, conflict, or role clarification. Pro-actively anticipate risks and needs, and determine the optimal solution.
- Monitor contractual obligations and deliverables for both Arcturus and its partner to ensure objectives are met. Participate in process for revising contractual agreements if necessary and in partnership with Legal.
- Report on a regular basis on partnerships, opportunities and risks
- Implement and monitor policies in our agreements and partnerships, including our policies on IP, Anti-Fraud, Conflict of Interest and Publication,
Strategy Management
- Create disease area / technology perspectives by synthesizing internal and external expertise to communicate latest scientific advances, anticipate future competitive dynamics, identify opportunities to create value through partnership, identify new or alternative potential partnerships, and drive to action
- Contribute to Portfolio view of partnerships and ensure all key data elements under direct responsibility of alliance management is kept up to date
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to elaborate partnering strategies for supporting the development of Arcturus disease area portfolios
- Explore the landscape (public and private sector) for opportunities (compounds, R&D capabilities, technologies other resources) relevant to Arcturus strategy
- Develop a network of contacts among relevant stakeholders, including industry, academia, NGOs, and governments.
- Lead or manage, as appropriate, the analysis, structuring, and preparation of business cases in conjunction with key business partners
- Manage potential out-licensing or tech transfer, as needed in support of established partnerships/collaborations
This position may require up to 30% travel, including international trips.
WHAT WE SEEK
Education:
- Minimum Bachelor's degree required, science related field strongly preferred; MBA or equivalent preferred.
Experience:
- 10–15 years in the pharmaceutical industry with knowledge of clinical development, regulatory, commercialization, manufacturing, and legal functions.
- At least 5 years in engagement, partnership, or alliance management with strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
Business and Collaboration Skills:
- Broad pharmaceutical experience, preferably across US and international markets.
- Proven ability to resolve conflicts, exercise diplomacy, and work effectively across organizational levels, functions, and geographies.
- Cross-functional experience in R&D, product development, manufacturing, regulatory, commercial, and finance teams.
Leadership and Program Management:
- Exceptional strategic thinking, leadership, and decision-making abilities.
- Experience leading and managing large-scale programs, including budget management.
- Skilled in motivating and managing diverse, matrixed teams for optimal performance.
Project Management:
- Strong project management skills, including planning, multitasking, prioritization, and delivering high-quality results under pressure.
- Expertise in managing multiple high-priority projects with senior leadership stakeholders.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Strong interpersonal skills with mastery of influencing tactics and the ability to give and receive feedback effectively.
Key Competencies:
