Job Summary
The Senior Research Analyst is an integral part of the CSE’s Transparency and Insights (T&I) team, which supports the organization’s analysis, evaluation, and implementation of decarbonization programs. The Senior Research Analyst contributes to CSE’s program analytics and evaluation functions. In this capacity they act as an enabler of EV market transformation by distilling evidence-based insights from complex data. They support, collaborate, and act as a proxy for the Senior Principal Advisor on research, policy analysis, and stakeholder engagement and they will make deep contributions to research and the building of practices and services to make data transparent and insightful.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Collaboratively designs and executes research incorporating data from multiple sources including program applications, survey-data, partner-data, and publicly accessible databases and reports among others.
- Designs, programs, and tests data collection instruments, including interview/focus group protocols and surveys.
- Conducts interviews/focus groups with program participants or other stakeholders and organizes data for analysis.
- Performs statistical analyses, including descriptive and inferential statistics.
- Ensures quality and refinement of “client-ready” research and program-transparency products (e.g., research papers and reports, presentations, spreadsheets and other data tools, survey instruments, data dashboards, etc.).
- Writes and oversees creation of methodology, key finding, and visualization descriptions and literature reviews.
- Provides metrics and evidence-based learnings to internal stakeholders (implementation and management teams) and select external stakeholders to inform program improvement, strategic planning, and decision-making.
- Represents CSE and its work in client-coordination activities.
- Provides guidance to teams of analysts and departmental project-management staff.
- Builds CSE research infrastructure and best practices including the development of standard operating procedures and the development of data assets and research services

QUALIFICATIONS
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Required
- Experience conducting high-quality, rigorous, and impactful research, including definition of research/evaluation objectives and questions, literature review, advanced analytic methodologies, technical report writing, client communication, and conference presentation.
- Ability to write well and communicate complex topics effectively for a wide variety of stakeholders, including state-agency clients.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Familiarity with one or more of the following:
- Survey platforms (e.g., Alchemer, Qualtrics)
- Statistical analysis tools (e.g., Python, R)
- Familiarity with project management tools and processes to report progress towards deadlines.
- Familiarity with methods of quality assurance implementation
- Demonstrated propensity to communicate with teammates proactively in a remote environment and seek feedback on work
- Interest in working with data, research and sustainable energy initiatives
Preferred
- Experience writing and leading elements of successful funding proposals.
- Understanding of the energy sector or markets or policy related to electric vehicles and distributed energy resources
- Python expertise
Education and Experience:
- 2-4 years’ experience in a collaborative knowledge-work environment
- PhD in science, statistics, policy, and/or a technology field with an emphasis on sustainable energy systems
- Additional work experience may be substituted to satisfy the education requirement
