About the job:


Under the general direction of the Data Center Lead, the Data Center Technician will physically support and provide smart-hands data center services for customers as well as facilitate customer access.

What you'll do:


  • Support day-to-day operations of the data center.
  • Consult, move, and install shelves, power strips, rails, cable management, servers, switches, and other equipment per customer requirements.
  • Provide quality checks and regular updates to the customer on an as-needed basis.
  • Assist with troubleshooting faulty equipment and work with the customer on coordinating a fix and/or a replacement.
  • Follow through with standard RMA processes, including timely returns, recording tracking details, and updating the customer.
  • Consult with senior peers on complex projects.
  • Able to conduct inventory control. Compare received products to packing slip and report discrepancies.
  • Digitally scan all incoming paperwork and transmit results to the customer and proactively provide recommendation on gaps.
  • Create solutions, consult and install, terminate, test and label all cross connects (copper and fiber) in the Data Center per requirements.
  • Receive and unpack products, identify parts, and dispose of all non-essential items and report results and recommendations.
  • Review, report and maintain accurate records and document all problems and submit to client.
  • Accept, fulfill and report current status via the ticketing system, shift reports, and email processes.
  • Ensure all equipment arrives as ordered. Record missing or damage equipment and report to the lead as well as the customer.
  • Power test and report on all incoming products before being moved to the data center floor per practices.
  • Record all received product information into a customer defined database (including asset tag information, product manufacturer, model, and serial number).
  • Identify customer defined spare parts and keep them in an inventory controlled area.
  • Dress and label all cables for easy identification and traceability and recommend changes.
  • Input all device locations and cable connections into a customer defined database.
  • Prepare daily reports on ongoing tickets in queue, and ensure SLA’s are met.
  • Perform crisis management in the event of critical situations or major service outages.
  • Escort vendors and repair technicians and ensure quality work is performed as requested by customer.
  • May perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications & Interest:


  • A minimum of two experience computer and technical education OR previous experience in a technical or data center support role.
  • The following certifications are highly desirable: CCNA, A+, DC basics (cabling, power, racking, etc)
  • Ability to work independently once provided direction
  • Good understanding of the OSI model
  • Good command of written and spoken English.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Must have a strong attention to detail.

Actual salary will be based on a variety of factors, including location, experience, skill set, performance, licensure and certification, and business needs. The range for this position in other geographic locations may differ. Certain positions may also be eligible for variable incentive compensation, such as bonuses or commissions, that is not included in the base salary.Estimated Pay Range$22 - $30USD
