Position Overview:
The Underwriting Analyst will play a critical role in evaluating merchant applications, monitoring account activity, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. This position requires a sharp analytical mind, a commitment to excellence, and the ability to manage risk effectively within the payment processing industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Application Review and Approval:
- Evaluate merchant applications, perform credit checks, and analyze financial statements.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, industry standards, and payment network regulations (e.g., NACHA, Visa, Mastercard).
- Verify merchant category codes (MCCs) and maintain documentation for audits.
- Merchant Monitoring and Risk Assessment:
- Monitor merchant activity, assess risk reports, and detect anomalies or suspicious behavior.
- Analyze transaction data, chargeback ratios, and refund trends to identify potential risks.
- Conduct annual merchant reviews for continued compliance.
- Risk Mitigation Strategies:
- Develop and recommend action plans for high-risk merchants.
- Propose corrective actions or account closures when necessary.
- Reporting and Documentation:
- Generate detailed reports on underwriting decisions and merchant risk levels.
- Maintain organized and accurate records to support regulatory audits and reviews.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 2-5 years of experience in underwriting, risk management, or compliance within payment processing or financial services.
- Proficiency in credit analysis, financial statement reviews, and fraud detection methodologies.
- Familiarity with payment industry regulations and MCCs.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and data analysis skills.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in Payment Processing, FinTech, or SaaS is a plus.
Work Schedule:
- Standard hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM.
- No ongoing travel required.
