Job Description
The Senior Associate, RF Systems Research Engineer at Vorbeck will be responsible for the design, development, and optimization of innovative RF systems. Responsibilities include a focus on applied research incorporating graphene-based technologies across a wide variety of RF applications. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in RF telecommunications with hands-on antenna performance modeling and simulation experience using tools such as CST studio, HFSS, and/or FEKO.
- End-to-End RF System Design and Product Development: Contribute to all phases of RF system development, from concept and design through modeling, optimization, validation, and final product launch. Ensure the seamless integration of graphene-based antennas with compatible signal processing architectures.
- Advanced RF Systems and Electromagnetic Modeling: Apply advanced RF telecommunications principles, including electromagnetic wave modeling, modulation techniques, and antenna radiation pattern predictions to design RF system solutions for Vorbeck clients.
- Antenna Array Design: Design and model performance of active and passive arrays incorporating graphene-based antennas. Potential applications include Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signal reception as well as SATCOM and Electronic Warfare (EW) uses.
- Antenna Performance Modeling and Optimization: Utilize tools such as CST Studio, HFSS, or FEKO to model and simulate antenna characteristics while optimizing design parameters for desired performance.
- Signaling Solution Development in the 3 MHz to 6 GHz Range: Design and optimize RF Systems that provide solutions to unique signal challenges in frequency ranges outside the LTE/5G bands. Specific frequencies of interest will be between 3 MHz and 6 GHz.
- Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership in the design, development, and testing of RF systems, ensuring they meet rigorous operational requirements and industry standards.
- Field Test Support and System Performance Validation: Build test plans and provide hands-on support during field testing and live demonstrations of RF systems. Ensure test planning and execution ensure successful deployment, operation, and troubleshooting in real-world environments.
- Solution Research, Cost Estimation, and Project Planning: Conduct detailed research to identify optimal solutions for RF system requirements, estimate costs, and develop realistic project timelines. Work with cross-functional teams to assess resource needs and ensure technical solutions align with specifications and budget constraints.
- Risk Management: Identify potential technical challenges and risks, proactively developing strategies to mitigate them and ensure project success.
- Intellectual Property: Work with the legal team to protect intellectual property through patent filings and other legal processes.
- Other tasks may be required, including giving external technical presentations, technical support for proposals, etc.
- Travel (expected): 10%
Qualifications
Education
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Physics, or a related field. A Ph.D. is a plus.
Experience
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in RF systems design, modeling, and optimization, with a strong background in advanced RF telecommunications principles.
- Proficiency in electromagnetic wave modeling, antenna design, and modulation techniques, with a solid understanding of antenna array design for applications like GNSS, SATCOM, and electronic warfare (EW) systems.
- Extensive experience using simulation tools such as CST Studio, HFSS, or FEKO to model and optimize antenna performance.
- Experience working with signaling solutions particularly in the 3 MHz to 6 GHz frequency range.
- Demonstrated ability to design, develop, and test RF components in complex, real-world environments, ensuring high performance and reliability.
- Strong knowledge of industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory standards in RF telecommunications.

- Expertise in graphene applications, design, and printable electronics is a significant advantage.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory requirements across commercial, aerospace, government, and defense sectors.
- Able to obtain or already possess a security clearance with the US DoD

Pay Range: $125,000 - $150,000, based on experience.
Clearance Level:
This position requires that the candidate be capable of receiving a US DoD Secret-level security clearance. Preference will be given to candidates with an active SCI-level Clearance.
