OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Claims Project Manager is responsible for the planning, coordination, and successful delivery of key projects within the claims department, ensuring alignment with business objectives and priorities. This role involves facilitating cross-functional collaboration between the claims team and other departments, including IT, to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget. The Claims Project Manager also identifies and mitigates risks, ensuring consistent communication with stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Collaborate with claims leadership to define project goals, success metrics, and deliverables.
- Develop detailed project plans, outlining scope, timelines, resource needs, and potential risks.
- Act as a liaison between the claims team and the IT team to ensure seamless coordination on technology-driven initiatives.
- Monitor project progress, identify issues, and proactively resolve roadblocks to keep projects on track.
- Lead regular project status meetings, updating stakeholders on progress, risks, and key milestones.
- Ensure all projects adhere to organizational standards, policies, and methodologies.
- Facilitate discussions to evaluate trade-offs between project scope, cost, timeline, and stakeholder impact.
- Build and guide cross-functional project teams, providing coaching and leadership as needed.
- Conduct post-project evaluations to assess success, identify lessons learned, and recommend improvements for future initiatives.
- Stay informed about industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices relevant to the claims function.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related technical field.
- PMI certification, Certified Scrum Master, or equivalent certification preferred.
- At least six years of project management experience, with a focus on business operations or claims.
- Familiarity with project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Visio) and methodologies.
- Excellent project management, organization, and team collaboration skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent facilitation, collaboration, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Ability to anticipate risks and devise solutions in the moment.
- Comfort with ambiguity, frequent change, or unpredictability.
- Strong team leadership skills.
- Strong understanding of the insurance industry and its objectives; claims-specific experience is preferred, but not required.
- Understanding of software development lifecycles (i.e. Agile, SCRUM, Waterfall, and Iterative) a plus.
- In depth understanding of project management concepts.
- Previous IT consulting experience a plus.
