QA Engineering Manager
This position requires the candidate to be available to work in-person in our Atlanta office.We are not currently able to sponsor work visas.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced, technically skilled leader to join our team as a QA Engineering Manager. In this role, you will lead a diverse QA Engineering team of both manual and automation testers while driving our strategic transition toward increased test automation. You'll be responsible for maintaining high quality standards across our rapidly growing organization while balancing immediate testing needs with long-term automation goals.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership
- Build and lead a mixed team of manual QA Engineers and automation specialists
- Create career development paths for both manual testers and automation engineers
- Mentor manual testers in their transition to automation skills
- Support automation engineers in understanding business context and testing strategy
- Foster collaboration between manual and automated testing efforts
- Manage resource allocation across manual and automated testing needs
Testing Strategy
- Develop and execute a strategic roadmap for gradual transition to automation
- Identify which tests should remain manual and which should be automated
- Establish testing standards and best practices for both manual and automated testing
- Create frameworks for test case development and documentation
- Balance the need for immediate testing coverage with long-term automation goals
- Define and track quality metrics across both manual and automated testing efforts
Technical Leadership
- Guide the development of automated testing frameworks and tools
- Review and approve test plans for both manual and automated testing
- Oversee the creation and maintenance of test documentation
- Ensure proper test coverage across manual and automated tests
- Guide implementation of automated testing across UI, API, and mobile platforms
- Manage test environments and testing infrastructure
Quality Assurance
- Coordinate testing efforts between manual and automation teams
- Ensure comprehensive test coverage through a combination of approaches
- Drive continuous improvement in testing processes
- Collaborate with Product and Development teams to integrate quality throughout the SDLC
- Establish and maintain testing KPIs and quality metrics
- Make release readiness decisions based on both manual and automated test results
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of QA engineering experience
- 2+ years of managing QA teams
- Experience managing both manual and automated testing efforts
- Strong understanding of when to apply manual vs. automated testing
- Experience with test automation frameworks and tools
- Knowledge of software development lifecycle and Agile methodologies
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
Bonus Points and Street Cred for
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- Experience leading testing transformation initiatives
- Strong programming skills in one or more languages (Python, JavaScript, Java)
- Knowledge of test automation frameworks (Selenium, Cypress, Appium)
- Experience with CI/CD and DevOps practices
- Mobile testing experience (both manual and automated)
- Certifications in test automation or quality assurance
- Experience with performance and security testing
