Description:
Responsible for performing basic maintenance and repairs on lawn care equipment, vehicles, and machinery to ensure they operate safely and efficiently. This entry-level role supports the daily operations of the branch by maintaining equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, and following company safety standards.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Technical certification or vocational training in automotive or diesel mechanics or equivalent experience (preferred)
Experience:
- 1+ years of experience in equipment maintenance, mechanical repair, or a related role preferred (small engine, automotive, or lawn care equipment).
Skills:
- Basic knowledge of mechanics and systems
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to perform routine maintenance tasks (oil changes, tire rotations, fluid checks, etc.)
- Good communication skills and the ability to follow instructions
- Attention to detail and commitment to safety standards
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to diagnose and repair basic mechanical issues under supervision.
- Basic knowledge of hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and power tools
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in various weather conditions as needed
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required
General Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and basic repairs on small engines, lawn care equipment (sprayers, spreaders, etc.), and company vehicles.
- Change oil, replace filters, lubricate equipment, and ensure proper fluid levels on all machinery.
- Inspect and replace belts, hoses, spark plugs, and other wear components as needed.
- Perform tire changes, brake checks, and other basic automotive tasks on company trucks and trailers.
- Assist with diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical issues under the supervision of senior mechanic or Service Manager.
- Follow preventive maintenance schedules to ensure equipment and vehicles operate at peak performance.
- Conduct safety inspections to identify and report hazards or repair needs promptly.
- Maintain records of repairs, maintenance, and parts usage to support compliance with company policies.
- Ensure all maintenance and repairs comply with company safety policies, procedures, and local regulations.
- Properly dispose of waste materials, including used oil, fluids, and other hazardous items, in accordance with company and environmental guidelines.
- Follow proper safety procedures when using tools, operating equipment, and working in the shop.
- Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment in the shop and yard.
- Help manage tools, parts, and supplies inventory to ensure availability for repairs and maintenance.
- Adhere to safety protocols when handling tools, chemicals, and heavy equipment.
- Provide support for equipment deliveries, set-ups, and transfers between branches as needed.
- Maintain the Lock Out/Tag Out log in accordance with OSHA
- Maintain the units Safety Data Sheet (SDS) program in accordance with OSHA
