Position Summary
: The Senior Manager, EHS will be responsible to develop and implement safety and environmental programs to ensure chemical operations comply and are consistent with all applicable regulatory and corporate requirements. In addition, the EHS manager will assist departments in maintaining the on-going compliance of existing operations as well as new and modified processes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides EHS expertise to the site relating to identifying and advising of potential safety/health hazards or environmental concerns and assist in developing and implementing corrective actions.
- Provides expertise pertaining to local, state and national regulatory standards.
- Ensures implementation of the EHS division and corporate improvement process goals of the business.
- Provides the road that may to lead the site culture to eliminate all injuries and all regulatory NOVs.
- Participates in cross-functional EHS audits of company facilities and ensures adequate follow-up and remedy for issues identified.
- Implements and drives the development and implementation formal and informal audit and assurance processes for the business.
- Ensures site activities are compliant with all applicable regulatory permit requirements (air, water, waste, etc.).
- Drives and enables safe work practices and environmental responsibility. Ensures site compliance with EHS policies, procedures, and awareness programs.
- Manages and ensures the site security is effective and in compliance with DHS guidelines.
- Manages the site nursing staff to ensure proper proactive and post incident care is provided for all employees.
- Coordinates or leads investigations and corrective/preventive actions of significant incidents or near misses to identify and solve root causes.
- Collaborates with site leadership to develop tools and techniques; help managers, engineers and other employees to manage change to mitigate the safety impact.
- Work globally with other HRPBs to align solutions with business needs.
- Forecasts and controls expenses, and implements plans to ensure commitments on budget, cost and schedule are met.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's or advanced degree; preferable in occupational safety, environmental health, engineering, or the physical sciences; advanced degree desirable.
- Eight or more years of experience in the process safety and environmental areas within the chemical processing or related manufacturing industry.
- CSP and Environmental certifications preferred.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
- Familiar with a range of continuous and batch chemical manufacturing processes and driving safety within the plant environment
- Knowledge of US safety and occupational health regulations (OSHA) and EPA regulations
- Experience in safety incident classification, investigation methodologies, and root cause analyses desirable
- Must be able to develop/conduct training for both technical / management and operator level
- Working experience with risk concepts, including classification from consequence and frequency estimates, risk-based decision making and cost-benefit analysis
- Knowledgeable of occupational safety programs, including behavioral based safety management, incident reporting, job task surveys, ergonomics; and, able to recognize health and industrial hygiene issues
- Familiar with process safety management systems, including MOC and other elements of the OSHA PSM standard. Working familiarity with the technical aspects of process safety – P&IDs, interlocks (SIS), emergency relief systems, fire/explosion suppression systems, quantified risk assessment
- Previous Environmental Management and Compliance leadership experience including air, water, waste, etc. required
- Experience in media training or experiences highly preferred
- Strong facilitative leadership abilities to enable organization to achieve EHS objectives
- Experience with Hazard and Risk assessment, process Safety, Environmental Compliance, OHSA, Emergency Response, Contractor Management, Management Systems, and Incident Investigation preferred
- Experience managing EHS auditing initiatives, including conducting risk assessment, ensuring adherence to laws, regulations, and policies, interviewing key personnel and conducting audit reporting and writing
- Ability to influence direction across a complex organization
- Must be able to work at all levels of the organization plus with external regulatory agencies, must have excellent communication skills
