Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Data Engineer on our Data Engineering team. This pivotal role will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing our data/BI infrastructure, and ensuring seamless data flow across the organization. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data engineering, business intelligence technologies, a passion for healthcare education, and the ability to drive data strategy and execution. You will own key initiatives in developing/scaling our Data Platform and tools from vision to execution, and support, and champion best practices.
You will work closely with the Engineering team, Data Analysts and Business stakeholders as we create new growth, revenue opportunities for Vumedi and continue fulfilling our mission of helping with medical education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, development, and maintenance of scalable data pipelines and ETL processes.
- Architect and implement robust data solutions that support analytics, reporting, and data science initiatives.
- Collaborate closely with Engineering and Analytics, and cross-functional business teams to understand data requirements and ensure data integrity and accuracy.
- Mentor other members of the team (both engineering, analytics and other) on data engineering practices data engineers and a team of data engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
- Build and design datamarts needed for Reporting/Analytics.
- Optimize database performance and troubleshoot data-related issues.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and best practices in data engineering and recommend their adoption where appropriate.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience in data engineering, with at least 3 years in a senior role.
- Strong proficiency in SQL (Postgres), Python, and/or other programming languages relevant to data engineering.
- Hands-on experience with AWS technologies & ecosystem.
- Strong experience with ETL tools such as Airflow.
- In-depth knowledge of data modeling, ETL processes, and data integration.
- Experience setting up, integrating & administering Reporting/BI Tools such as Tableau.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and drive data strategy across teams.
- Experience in the healthcare or education sector a plus.
