Position Overview
The Data Science Intern, a fully remote position, will report directly to the Manager, Data Science and plays a critical role in influencing the SimpleTire operating strategy focused on better serving our customers each day. This individual will have a proven track record in leveraging analytical insights to influence strategic initiatives and delivering business-critical reporting to business leadership. The Analyst Intern will be responsible for providing data-driven insights while empowering the supply chain team to make decisions utilizing insights developed within the Analytics Center of Excellence.
Essential job functions:
- Analyze and interpret complex data sets to provide actionable insights, trends, and recommendations to support decision-making.
- Collaborate with the Supply Chain and other teams to identify data opportunities in network planning, inventory management, and logistics optimization, enhancing customer fulfillment and operational efficiency.
- Build and maintain machine learning and optimization models using Python, Gurobi, and other relevant tools.
- Develop SQL queries to extract, aggregate, and analyze data from Snowflake for various projects and performance metrics.
- Design and implement user-friendly data dashboards using tools such as Power BI or Tableau, ensuring high adoption and usability.
- Proactively identify new areas for data-driven innovation, helping the organization stay ahead of market and operational trends.
- Work with end users and stakeholders to gather and define business logic, KPIs, and technical requirements for reporting and analytics solutions.
- Translate complex data into easily understandable insights for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Continuously explore new data science techniques and methodologies to improve current processes and performance.

Qualifications
Minimum Job Requirements
- Proficiency in statistical techniques and their application in solving business challenges.
- Strong skills in SQL and a scripting language (e.g., Python). Experience with Gurobi and network optimization models is highly desired.
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
- Experience working with large, complex data sets, performing data mining, and building dashboards.
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field such as Data Science, Analytics, Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, or related disciplines.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex data insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Eagerness to work cross-functionally with different teams and independently when required.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and focused on execution with a proactive approach to identifying issues and solving problems.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
- Ability to sit for long periods of time.
- Talking through the computer for many meetings and one-to-one conversations
- Continuous viewing of a computer monitor and data entry.
- Travel as necessary (<10%).
