This Summer 2025 Actuarial Internship position will be based in West Chester, PA.
Our Actuarial Science Interns have the opportunity to support and gain exposure to one or more business areas including Valuation, Capital Management & Modeling, Product Management, Experience Studies & Assumption Setting, Hedging Operations, Financial Risk Management, Investment and Risk Operations, and Corporate Risk Management.Specific responsibilities will vary by area, but may include:
- Building an understanding of variable annuity product features and the primary risk drivers.
- Gaining an understanding of market data and various metrics that are used to measure risks associated with variable annuities.
- Using data analysis tools to summarize data extracts, organize data at varying levels, and interpret trends in data for various purposes such as product assumption setting, investigation of reserve movements, and risk reporting across liabilities, assets, and/or derivatives.
- Assisting with the calculation and reporting of statutory reserves for the deferred annuity and payout annuity businesses
- Supporting market, investment risk, and stress testing analysis and the reporting of liquidity, capital, and economic metrics. Specific projects m may include weekly liquidity analysis and periodic investment portfolio risk analysis.
- Assisting with quantitative analysis, assumption development, completion of strategic projects, and improving processes, documentation, and a analytics.
- Updating and developing Excel spreadsheets that extensively utilize Excel formulae and data utilities as well as VBA macros.
- Developing and presenting PowerPoint presentations or memorandums to summarize analysis and results for various types of audiences including immediate teams as well as for the CRO/CFO of the company.
Students applying to our Summer 2025 Actuarial Internship are expected to have a strong mathematical aptitude, solid technical skills, display personal initiative and communication skills.Preferred Qualifications: Strong verbal and written communication skills & technical skills inclusive of advanced Excel functions. Exposure to additional programming languages; R, VBA, SQL, is a plus. GPA of 3.0 or higherPreferred Majors: Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Economics or other related majors Competitive pay, study hours, and financial support for pursuit of actuarial exams is included. Other: While housing is not provided, Venerable offers a weekly travel stipend to offset some potential commuting expenses.Work schedule: Employees currently adhere to a hybrid schedule; 2 days in the office at the work location; 2 days a week (Tuesdays and Wednesdays) / 3 days from home.Work location: West Chester, PA#LI-DNI
