A3 Technology, Inc. is seeking an Engineer to support the FAA’s NextGen UAS Traffic Management (UTM) Programs. This role provides direct support to the FAA Program Manager and involves oversight, coordination and strategic guidance for UTM projects and activities. This position will ensure alignment of project goals with FAA objectives, assist in scoping and planning, review technical deliverables and contribute to strategy development and policy initiatives. The qualified candidate will play a key role in overseeing development efforts, coordinating with engineering teams and ensuring quality and consistency across all deliverables. This position also involves supporting internal FAA working groups, strategy development, road mapping and engagement with policy and rulemaking activities to advance the safe and efficient integration of UAS into the National Airspace System (NAS).
This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a transformative program that supports the integration of UAS into the NAS, working alongside FAA leadership and stakeholders to shape the future of aviation.Responsibilities:

  • Assist the FAA Program Manager in defining project scope, objectives and required deliverables for UTM programs and initiatives.
  • Oversee and coordinate with development engineering teams to ensure adherence to project timelines, quality standards and FAA objectives while reviewing and providing recommendations on system designs, technical assessments and integration documents.
  • Support internal FAA working groups and contribute to the development of roadmaps, strategies and technical approaches for UTM integration, operations and enterprise alignment with FAA goals and strategies.
  • Participate in policy and rulemaking discussions to provide technical input, ensure alignment with operational goals and facilitate coordination between FAA leadership, industry partners and other federal agencies.
  • Support the development of strategic and programmatic management plans, guidance documents, technical analyses, feasibility assessments and technical evaluations.
  • Review and validate technical documents and plans, testing and evaluation support, independent verification and validation and system modeling to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Engage in stakeholder activities, including technical interchange meetings (TIMs) and tabletop exercises to validate findings and recommendations while fostering collaboration among all involved parties.
  • Monitor program performance, recommend adjustments to align with evolving FAA priorities and collaborate with the FAA Program Manager on achieving program goals and activities.

Skills Required:

  • Strong understanding of Traffic Management concepts, systems and technologies.
  • Experience in project management including scoping, planning and overseeing technical teams.
  • Proficiency in reviewing and analyzing technical documentation including system architectures, integration designs and technical assessments.
  • Familiarity with FAA objectives, policies and regulatory frameworks related to systems integration.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for coordinating across cross-disciplinary teams and presenting technical recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to assess program performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Ability to work effectively in dynamic, fast-paced environments while managing multiple priorities.

Skills Preferred:

  • Experience working directly with the FAA or in aviation-related federal programs.
  • Familiarity with the National Airspace System (NAS) and its operational requirements.
  • Background in systems engineering or integration.
  • Experience developing strategies or roadmaps for complex technical programs.
  • Knowledge of rulemaking processes and policy development within the aviation domain.
  • Familiarity with aviation operations including UAS and manned aircraft coordination.
  • Certification in project management methodologies such as PMP or Agile, is a plus.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and 10-15 years relevant experience OR 
  • Master's degree in a related field and 5-10 years relevant experience.

Additionally, US Citizenship or documented proof of eligibility to work in the US is a must. Upon receiving a conditional offer of employment, candidates will undergo a Government investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for Government clearance. Verification of past employment, education and references is also required.
