We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running. Our program creates a safe place for girls to grow in confidence and strengthen their self-worth through an introduction to identifying and processing emotions, goal setting, cooperation, healthy decision-making, and self-respect, while training for a 5K.

Position Summary


Reporting to the Executive Director and consistent with the mission of Girls on the Run, the Program Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of programming, including program promotion and relationship building, site recruitment and support, program growth and quality assurance, staff supervision, program operations and data collection and reporting. The Program Director ensures that Girls on the Run NYC is delivering high quality programming to a population representative of the identities and demographics across the five boroughs.

Responsible for the growth of numbers of girls we serve, the effectiveness of the program team, and ensuring that our program processes are equitable, efficient, and effective.Key responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to: Strategic Program Management

  • Provide overall leadership and supervising of all Girls on the Run programming
  • Implement the Girls on the Run strategic program plan and achieve program goals with respect to number of girls served, number of sites, and demographic requirements
  • Perform the primary coordination and organization of all aspects of programming, including but not limited to, site application and selection, participant registration, coach recruitment, selection, training, and ongoing communication
  • Enforce all current site policies and procedures and generate innovation and improvement as needed
  • Define recruitment goals for girls and sites by borough/season and develop effective marketing strategies to meet these goals
  • Train, supervise and support program team members
  • Create estimates for girls, coaches, and sites per season/year to be used for budgeting and work with Executive Director to prepare budget
  • Identify and build multi-site level partnerships

Program Recruitment & Outreach

  • Work with community leaders, schools, and other groups to develop new program sites and strategically identify and develop partnerships with community centers/CBOs to offer programming outside of school-based sites
  • Develop collaborative partnerships to deepen connections in the community and strengthen the overall impact of GOTR NYC while incorporating Girls on the Run’s commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA) initiatives

Program Site Management

  • Manage relationships with site liaisons and coaches including pre-, during, and post-season to support the needs of all new and existing sites
  • Conduct visits to program sites throughout New York City
  • Work with GOTR NYC staff to implement 5ks successfully and safely, and oversee support to program sites and coaches leading up to the event and day-of support
  • Support Program Manager in caregiver (parent/guardian) communications

Volunteer Management, Training & Retention

  • Work with program team to develop and implement a successful coach recruitment campaign resulting in a diversified coaching pool
  • Work with program team to implement coach training and all coach onboarding
  • Develop and strengthen the STAR Coach program to ensure adequate coach support
  • Enforce all current coaching policies and procedures and generate continuous improvement

Program Evaluation, Operations & Administrative

  • Oversee season surveys and site visits and meet evaluation requirements for specific grants, while staying up to date on trends in positive youth development evaluation and implementation for new strategies when needed
  • Oversee and manage all participant financial assistance policies and procedures
  • Manage all coach files, site files and other program related paperwork
  • Address challenges/policy breaches/safety issues that arise with coaches, sites, and girls

Qualifications


Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or five or more years equivalent work experience required
  • Passion for the Girls on the Run mission and the ability to effectively communicate issues surrounding empowerment, self-esteem, body image and whole-person health
  • At least three years of experience working in youth development programs
  • Outstanding communication skills in multiple environments and with a range of audiences
  • Thorough, organized, detail-oriented with a keen ability to prioritize, manage against goals, and work under tight timelines
  • Ability to work well in a small office setting, function as a team player, and also work independently
  • Flexible and adaptable
  • Effective problem solver
  • Data and systems management
  • Willing to undergo a background check
  • Comfortable with hybrid work including remote and in-person work environment
  • Available to work some weekends and evenings, including for coach events and other organizational events such as volunteer and fundraising events

Preferred

  • Experience with Girls on the Run (or other similar youth or wellness programs)
  • Experience working in collaboration with the Department of Education
  • Non-profit management experience
  • Experience using Canva, Asana, and Slack, or similar project management and communications tools
  • Connections to the local community
  • Training and facilitation experience

Compensation & BenefitsThis is a full-time, exempt position offering a compensation range of $74,000 - $80,000, depending on experience. In addition, Girls on the Run NYC is proud to offer a comprehensive benefits package including professional development funds, retirement plan with employer match, medical, vision, and dental insurance, life insurance, 12 paid holidays, 20 days of PTO annually and summer Fridays (half days). 

Life at Girls on the Run

Girls on the Run is a transformational physical activity based positive youth development program for girls in 3rd-8th grade. We teach life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games. The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K running event. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness.\n\nGirls on the Run International (GOTRI) is the parent organization of more than 200 Girls on the Run councils across the United States and Canada. GOTRI establishes, trains and supports a network of community-level councils with local volunteers. The volunteers serve as role models to the girls through coaching the 10-week, 20 lesson curricula.
