(Direct Placement for Client)Sigma Design has collaborated with a heavy industrial fabrication and machine shop seeking an experienced Fabricator to join their facility in Portland, OR. This company is one of the largest machine shops on the west coast. Their products are used in a variety of industries, including mining, steel mills, power generation, cement, pulp, and paper.

What Is Offered:

  • Monday – Thursday, 5:00 am – 3:30 pm
  • $30.00 - $38.00 an hour, DOE

Primary Function:


The Fabricator is responsible for following safety protocols, ensuring proper PPE usage, and interpreting blueprints, weld symbols, and procedures to fabricate parts. They prepare, fit, and weld assemblies, perform inspections, and troubleshoot fit-up issues to ensure dimensional accuracy and quality.

Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities:


  • Ensure all safety procedures are followed, and the proper PPE is in place
  • Interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and procedures
  • Use grinders, torches, saws and other fabrication tools to prepare parts for fit-up
  • Tack weld assemblies and measure to ensure dimensional accuracy
  • Final weld parts in all postures and positions.
  • Perform First Article Inspections.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems with fit up as they occur

Education and Experience: (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)


  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience with Mig, Tig, and Oxy-Fuel torch
  • Must have knowledge in rigging and crane safety
  • Must have strong attention to detail
  • Familiarity and skill with interpreting technical drawings and blueprints
  • Ability to work independently and closely follow directions is essential
  • Must have a positive and professional attitude
  • Available to work weekends and overtime
  • Capable of standing for extended periods of time
  • Non-ferrous welding experience is a plus
  • Background and drug screen - pass a post-offer background verification and drug screen.

Work Environment


Standard machine shop environment with various types of machinery. Appropriate safety garments (PPE) must be worn. Must be able to stand and work as long as 12 hours in different positions. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
