Senior Commercial Underwriter


Shore United Bank is seeking a full-time
Senior Commercial Underwriter to join our team. The Senior Commercial Underwriter is considered a credit analysis SME and is primarily responsible for underwriting the most complex commercial loan requests on a self-directed basis. This includes interfacing with the account officer to ensure the loan is properly structured and risk rated, compliant with regulations and bank policy, and that all relevant information has been obtained to identify and mitigate potential risk to the bank. The underwriter will be required to compile a final approval package for submission to the appropriate approval authority including financial statement spreads, global cash flow worksheets, written narratives, and supplementary tables and charts, which will require the review of source documents including, but not limited to, financial statements, tax returns, credit reports, and legal documents.

The Senior Underwriter may be responsible for training, mentoring, or consulting with less experienced Underwriters, reviewing draft approval packages for quality control, or other duties as assigned, and is typically responsible for oversight of certain administrative duties to support the credit analysis function.

Essential Functions Include:


  • Receives data on prospective and active borrowing accounts, i.e., financial statements, agency reports, and interview and investigation sheets.
  • Analyzes data and evaluates the short- and long-run prospects of the individual or company.
  • Recommends to appropriate personnel on the granting or denying of loans; prepares sufficient information to document recommendations.
  • Supports loan grade after conducting a thorough credit analysis and documentation review.
  • Provides thorough documentation of all financial analysis work, including ratios and other related information.
  • Ensures that all credit analysis activities are conducted in accordance with prescribed lending policy.
  • May exercise loan authority to approve, restructure or deny commercial loan requests while protecting the Bank and meeting the needs of its clients.
  • Identifies and responds to opportunities to communicate affiliates products and services to promote the image of the affiliate and promote Shore Bancshares’ community of companies’ products and services to potential customers and referring those customers to the proper personnel.
  • Achieves goals assigned to the Senior Commercial Underwriter as part of the assigned department's annual operating plan.
  • Abides by the current laws and organizational policies and procedures designed and implemented to promote an environment which is free of harassment and other forms of illegal discriminatory behavior in the workplace.
  • Cooperates with, participates in, and supports the adherence to all internal policies, procedures, and practices in support of risk management and overall safety and soundness and the Bank's compliance with all regulatory requirements, e.g. Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Equal Credit Opportunity Act, etc.
  • Participates in required training sessions, including training for compliance with BSA/AML policies and procedures.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:


  • Full-time.
  • Exempt.
  • Days of Work: Monday-Friday.

Required Education and Experience:


  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Accounting, or related discipline preferred.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in commercial credit, public accounting, financial statement preparation/analysis or other financial analysis

Compensation:


  • The pay range for this position is $93,400 to $141,800 annually.
  • Actual compensation offered may vary from the posted hiring range based on factors such as relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, licensure requirements and/or skill level, and will be finalized at the time of offer.
