This role will manage the implementation and improvement of Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and PLC systems while collaborating with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve production challenges. This role requires a strong background in robotics, mechanical systems, and programming to ensure seamless integration of automation solutions within our customer's environment.
This position is in-person at our Richmond Headquarters Office.Work Location:1900 Ellen Road, Richmond, VA 23230Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechatronics, Electrical, or related field)
- 7+ years of experience in process manufacturing or automation engineering.
- Proficiency with Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and programming PLCs (Rockwell, Siemens S7).
- Experience with AutoCAD Inventor or equivalent for development of mechanical systems.
- Experience programming robotics utilizing laboratory scheduling software such as Green Button Go, Overlord, or equivalent.
- Solid understanding of AC/DC controls, motors, drives, and HMI development.
- Familiarity with laboratory robotics, such as the Precise Flex Arm from Brooks or equivalent.
- Familiarity with PLC communication protocols (e.g., Profibus, ProfNet).
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in automation and control systems.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work in team settings.
- Able to kick-off, manage, and execute automation projects (for both custom and standardized systems).
- Willingness to work both in office and field settings.
Requirements:
- Lead and execute automation projects, including the development and enhancement of PLC and HMI systems.
- Support and improve Distributed Control Systems (DCS) for optimal production performance.
- Create 2D/3D design concepts that are in-line with customer/product requirements.
- Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and implement corrective actions to ensure continuous operation.
- Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to develop innovative solutions for process improvements.
- Document and maintain software backups for automation systems.
- Stay current with advancements in automation technology and recommend upgrades as needed.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance plans for automation equipment to minimize downtime.
- Train maintenance staff and operators on new systems and updated processes.
- Conduct root cause analysis for equipment failures and identify solutions to prevent recurrence.
- Knowledge of laboratory and industrial safety standards, and how to ensure conformance during the design process (CE).
- Assist in the design and implementation of safety features in control systems to comply with industry standards.
- Participate in cross-functional teams to support company initiatives and projects.
- Evaluate and integrate new automation technologies to improve efficiency and product quality.
- Provide technical support during equipment installations and commissioning
