Engineering - Technology at Coda

Our tech stack is solidly based on AWS cloud, with a keen interest in infrastructure-as-code and the creation of new microservices via the Quarkus framework. We believe that genius can strike anywhere, so we promote ownership and cultivate a servant leadership culture that lets engineers take the reins on features.We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Manager of Engineering Excellence and DevOps to lead initiatives that enhance engineering efficiency, drive operational excellence, and foster a culture of continuous improvement. In this role, you will oversee the adoption and optimization of best practices in software development and DevOps, ensuring high-quality delivery across the engineering organization.As a pivotal member of the leadership team, you will work closely with engineering, product, and operations teams to implement innovative tools, processes, and strategies that enable scalable, reliable, and secure software development and delivery.

Engineering Excellence


  • Collaborate with teams to enhance development velocity and deliver measurable improvements in code quality and team development practices.
  • Drive adoption of industry best practices, including coding standards, code reviews, and test automation.
  • Establish and maintain metrics to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of end-to-end engineering processes.
  • Advocate for and implement CI/CD best practices to ensure rapid and reliable delivery of software.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning and improvement through training, knowledge sharing, and mentoring.

DevOps


  • Oversee the design, implementation, and optimization of DevOps pipelines and infrastructure.
  • Ensure high availability, performance, and scalability of build, deployment, and monitoring systems.
  • Collaborate with teams to enhance deployment frequency, reduce lead time for changes, and minimize system downtime.
  • Implement and manage robust incident management and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Drive the adoption of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and cloud-native technologies to support scalable environments.

Leadership and Collaboration


  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of DevOps engineers and engineering process experts.
  • Partner with engineering, product, and business stakeholders to align technical goals with business objectives.
  • Champion an agile mindset and foster collaboration between cross-functional teams.
  • Act as a change agent to promote a strong DevOps culture across the organization.
  • Evangelize and drive the adoption of best practices in a structured and data-driven manner.

Qualifications - Education


  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Alternatively, equivalent experience with fundamental computing and engineering concepts.
  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering, DevOps, or a related field, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of driving engineering and operational excellence initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of DevOps principles, tools, and practices, including CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and monitoring.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS, and container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes, ECS, etc.).Proficiency with scripting and automation tools (e.g., Python, Bash, Ansible, Terraform).Familiarity with agile development methodologies and tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence).
  • Experience with application performance monitoring (APM) and logging tools
