The Controller remains a pivotal role on the management team and will be a partner to the CFO and other department leaders. The controller will support the accounting function in a high-transaction environment with a precision mindset and strong decision-making ability to produce accurate, timely and detailed GL support and analysis.The Controller will be charged with identifying and implementing improvements to processes, procedures, systems and internal controls to position the company for profitable and sustained future growth.
This individual will be responsible for leading and mentoring a team of international accounting, A/P, A/R and offshore teams. The right individual should flourish in an environment of working cross-functionally to creatively solve business challenges, communicate effectively, engage in the business, be deadline oriented, and maintain a strong system of checks and balances.Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Accounting: Oversee and support the accounting team with dynamic leadership that creates an environment of trust and productivity. Team is comprised of 5+ members including: Accounting, AP, and offshore employees
- The European accounting team has a strong dotted line to this position
- Prepare and manage the month-end close process including timely and accurate close, reconciling all accounts, analyzing the financial statements and variances, and ensuring handoff to financial reporting is accurate and delivered on time
- Lead efforts to maintain a month-end close at current pace of 6 days
- Ensure accuracy of the G/L, department coding, schedules, reconciliations and that financial statements are issued accurately, timely and in accordance with GAAP
- Develop, maintain, document, and oversee the appropriate policies, procedures, systems and segregation of duties to assure that the company has meticulous accounting support records and internal controls in place
- Manage expense systems and records to ensure accuracy and timeliness including T&E, payroll, commissions, payroll taxes and AP workflow
- RPM has branches in Europe & Mexico, serve as a point-person to ensure financial completeness in accordance to GAAP
- Manage outside audits & tax to ensure timely reviews/audits/tax returns
- Assist in implementing systems, processes, and software that automate internal accounting process and improve efficiencies throughout the organization
- Bring new ideas, best practices, and creative perspectives to the team to drive efficiencies, improvements, and impacts to the bottom line
- Serve as a partner to the CFO and the business to help drive new initiatives and process improvements. Participate in pivotal decisions as they relate to strategic and tactical initiatives
Preferred Qualifications
- 7+ years’ experience as a senior-level accounting leader
- 1+ year as Controller for middle market company
- CPA and/or advanced accounting degree a plus
- Strong working knowledge of detailed financial data analysis in a high-transaction environment
- Proven focus streamlining accounting processes while improving value-add, financial services
- Strong history of financial project management as well as implementing and maintaining internal controls
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and local tax compliance regulations and reporting
- International experience (Canada, Mexico, & Europe), preferred
- NetSuite or other large ERP experience
- Ability to proficiently use various Microsoft Office applications, with exceptional Microsoft Excel skills
- Experience working in private equity owned, growth oriented, environment
