Base Compensation Range: $100-130K


*In addition, you qualify for:

  • Annual bonus opportunity of 15% based on company performance

This position supports our Gyros business.  Gyros Protein Technologies provides automated systems for protein analysis and peptide synthesis solutions that accelerate the discovery, development, and manufacture of biotherapeutic drugs.

Job Summary


The R&D Manager that supports our Gyros Protein Technologies business has responsibility for managing the R&D team for our peptide synthesizer business in Tucson, Arizona. The role will be a combined team manager and Project Manager/Design responsible role.

Duties/Responsibilities


  • Leadership responsibilities including training, policy compliance, staffing, compensation, development, annual management meetings etc.  
  • Design responsibility for the peptide synthesis products
  • Manage and prioritize the daily activities of a cross disciplinary team of engineers and specialists contributing to NPI and product sustainment activities for the company’s automated peptide synthesis products
  • Serve as an interface between application, software and instrument development with responsibility to evaluate, verify and validate prototypes, products and product features from a specification or usability perspective.
  • Consolidate design inputs into product specifications (URS and FRS), including resolution of conflicting requirements and further requirement breakdown as needed.
  • Keep up-to-date in the field and propose new development and improvements with in the area of design responsibility
  • Responsible for 2nd and 3rd line support
  • Create and maintain SOPs for standard work within the engineering team
  • Participation in product development activities, feasibility studies and idea evaluation.
  • Analyze new functionality and suggest implementation strategies and time plans.
  • Ensure timely and efficient execution of engineering change orders
  • Suggest, plan and execute improvements and or analyse new technology, functionality or new development projects
  • Ensure other key stakeholders receive adequate support from the R&D team (e.g. service, manufacturing, machine shop, etc…)
  • Lead the Product Care (sustainability) and Change Control Board meetings
  • Act as Project Manager when needed
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders (service, product managers, manufacturing, project managers, etc.) and ensure adequate support from the team

Experience/Education


  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience of product development in a relevant engineering role, preferably within the life science area.
  • Previous experience as manager or team leader
  • 2-3 years of experience as project manager or technical lead
  • English written and spoken
