Sol Systems is seeking a Tax Manager to manage tax responsibilities of the company and its affiliates. This person will report to the Assistant Controller and be part of the larger CFO team that supports the business units. This person will be partner with various business units and management to provide tax guidance, tax planning and strategy, and manage relationships with external tax advisors. In addition, this role will conduct research as well as ensure compliance with federal and multi-state tax activities.

- Coordination and review of tax returns filings prepared by multiple service providers; taxes in scope are federal and state income taxes for partnerships and corporations, property and real estate taxes, sales and use taxes, franchise and occupational license taxes, FIRPTA, 1099, employer taxes and other taxes relevant to multi-jurisdictional nature of the business
- Coordinating with outside advisors in connection with key strategic projects and tax planning initiatives, including tax diligence review for the projects under development
- Partner with tax advisors to prepare tax estimates for internal planning and estimated tax payments
- Managing tax payments and tax distributions to partners
- Managing fiscal and investor tax compliance calendar
- Tracking all tax exemptions programs and ensuring compliance under those programs
- Managing communications from tax authorities
- Coordinating annual Nexus reviews for income tax and sales and use tax
- Preparing tax accounting provisions for several affiliates to comply with ASC 740
- Reviewing tax returns against original partnership investment models in inverted lease and partnership flip structures
- Understanding federal and state tax incentives programs for solar developers and operators
- Coordinating tax compliance provisions from M&A transactions, including purchase price allocation
- Identifying and implementing tax savings opportunities to drive optimization in future tax planning
- Performing ad hoc tax research and providing guidance to internal teams
- Developing state level tax guidance summaries for development and asset management teams in key states
- Building relationships with colleagues in accounting, asset management, development, structured finance and other teams to understand business financial performance, transactions executed and any other significant operating activity within the company and the funds under management
A successful candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; Master’s degree in Taxation preferred
- CPA required
- 7+ years of related experience, preferably in Big 4, corporate settings or renewable energy companies
- Strong knowledge of federal, state and local tax laws and regulations
- Experience with partnership taxation in renewable energy or real estate
- Knowledge of investment tax models for partnership flip and inverted lease structures
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; Advanced excel skills preferred
Location & Hours:
This is a full-time role and will be based in our Washington, DC office.
