The Role: VP of Security
As VP of Security at Ambience, you will be entrusted with defining, driving, and continuously enhancing our security strategy. You will manage enterprise risk, ensure compliance across regulatory frameworks, and maintain a robust security posture that supports our rapid growth. This role is both highly strategic and hands-on, requiring you to collaborate across the company—from engineering and product to sales and legal—to embed security best practices, mitigate risks, and instill a culture of security and privacy.
This position reports directly to our executive leadership.
What You'll Do:
- Risk Management & Leadership
- Expand and refine our Risk Registry and Security Posture
- Translate risks into clear OKRs and resource needs
- Security Operations
- Set and manage security budgets every six months, optimizing costs
- Build and lead a high-performing security team, including hiring and development
- Oversee ad hoc security tasks (infrastructure approvals, IR/BCDR plans, etc.) with transparent documentation
- Compliance & External Communication
- Determine adoption timelines for key frameworks (HITRUST, ISO, FedRAMP)
- Develop and maintain policies on technical security, data privacy, sharing, and HIPAA
- Collaborate with sales, legal, and customer teams to support client-facing security requirements and contract documents
Who You Are:
- Seasoned Security Leader
- 7+ years in security-critical environments (healthcare, finance, federal, or security tech)
- Experience in enterprise SaaS and small-to-mid-size startup settings
- Has managed and scaled security teams (Director/VP-level a plus)
- Strategic & Hands-On
- Adept at prioritizing risks, building action plans, and communicating trade-offs
- Comfortable working directly with technical teams to drive alignment and execution
- Mission-Aligned
- Drawn to healthcare innovation, motivated by improving clinician and patient outcomes
- Thrives in a fast-paced, early-stage environment, ready to take on new challenges proactively
Compensation
$250,000 - $300,000, with the addition of meaningful equity.
