Job Summary:
Responsible for genetic genealogy products on the Next Generation Sequencing (NGS)team as well as assisting the team with general team maintenance and other products as needed.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Performs laboratory procedures including Polymerase Chain Reaction, Capillary Electrophoresis,NGS sequencing, and Library Preparations for genetic genealogy products, including Ychromosome products (YSTR) and Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) sequencing.• Maintains records of laboratory work and sample tracking.• Operates and maintains sophisticated laboratory instrumentation, including centrifuges;thermocyclers; Beckman, Tecan, Echo, and Mantis automated liquid handlers; Illumina MiSeqNGS Sequencer; Applied Biosystems 3730XL Capillary Electrophoresis instruments; and otherNGS or laboratory instrumentation as needed.• Follows all laboratory protocols and policies, including quality control and quality systemactivities, and documents appropriately all records, deviations, and corrective actions asrequired.• Monitors and maintains supply inventories and reagent stocks.• Proactively identifies and assists with troubleshooting issues with assays, equipment, orreagents related to procedures performed.• Assists with other products and procedures on the NGS team as needed.• Contributes to organization and cleanliness of the team and lab workspaces.Requirements
Required Qualifications:
• 4- year Bachelor degree or higher in a Biological Science or related field; or equivalent educationand experience meeting requirements of regulatory agencies• Computer literacy of Microsoft Word and Excel• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally verbally and in writing• Minimum of 1 year previous laboratory experience performing molecular biology techniques(e.g. PCR, qPCR, NGS, microarrays, DNA extractions, capillary electrophoresis, Short TandemRepeat Assays, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications:
• Previous experience with or exposure to Next Generation Sequencing techniquesSalary Description$24/hr
