Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled Cable Technician II to install, maintain, and repair voice and data communication systems within a DoD environment. The ideal candidate will be familiar with BICSI standards, possess experience in telecommunications and network infrastructure, and have hands-on expertise in cable testing, installation, and troubleshooting.
What You Will Do:
- Perform installation, maintenance, and repair of telecommunications and network cabling systems.
- Ensure compliance with BICSI rules, regulations, and standards.
- Use network cabling test equipment, including network testers, copper cable testers, fiber OTDRs, and fiber power meters.
- Analyze, administer, and maintain telecommunications and network cabling infrastructure.
- Dress, terminate, and test cables, and work with power tools and ladders.
- Test, locate, install, and repair cabling infrastructure related to trouble calls and routine maintenance.
- Install, maintain, and repair voice and data communications systems.
- Identify, track, and remove abandoned cable, ensuring safety and neatness of cable installations.
- Maintain safety standards while working with cable installations.
- Communicate effectively with personnel across various expertise levels.
- Provide solid customer support in high-visibility environments.
- Analyze and solve network problems, applying problem-solving techniques.
- Pay attention to detail and accuracy in all cable-related tasks.
Requirements
What We Need:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related technical discipline (required) OR Equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work experience.
- Minimum three (3) years of related telecommunications experience.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience working as a Cable Technician within the DoD environment.
- Must be familiar with BICSI rules, regulations, and standards.
- Well-versed in the use of network cabling test equipment including network testers, copper cable testers, fiber Optical Time Domain Reflectometers (OTDRs) and fiber power meters.
- Analyzes, administers, and maintains telecommunications and network cabling infrastructure.
- Dress, terminate and test cables and components, Ability to work with power tools and ladders.
- Tests, locates, installs, and repairs cabling infrastructure associated with trouble calls, and performs routine maintenance.
- Installs, maintains, and repairs voice and data communications systems.
- Identify, track, and remove abandoned cable, and keep cable neatly tied and bundled while maintaining safety standards.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively to personnel of various expertise levels.
- Solid Customer Support Skills in a high visibility environment.
- Problem analysis and problem solving.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
Certifications:
- Related certifications for Fiber Optic Cable and CAT6 Cable Installation.
Clearance Level:
Active DoD Secret Clearance
