How it’s going (and growing)
With a talented team of 600+ Roofsters, our collaborative, can-do culture is what fuels our growth. In 2022, we closed on our Series E, raising $240 million, and have offices in California, Texas, and New York as well as many remote opportunities. Our growth includes recent acquisitions of Stessa (financial and asset management software), RentPrep (tenant screening and placement service for landlords), and Mynd (property management platform for both Retail and Institutional investors).
About the Role
The Institutional Property Accounting Manager will oversee full-cycle accounting support for institutional property management clients and serve as a key leader within the property accounting team. This role will be responsible for financial reporting, communication with both internal management and external clients, and managing a team of property accountants. Strong leadership, accounting acumen, and collaboration skills are crucial to succeed in this role.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the accounting team in performing daily accounting operations for institutional portfolios across multiple regions
- Review and distribute monthly financial reports, including journal entries, financial statement preparation, and bank reconciliations
- Oversee the preparation of monthly and ad hoc client distributions
- Ensure the accuracy of general ledgers and subsidiary ledgers through detailed reviews
- Manage G/L activity postings and balance sheet reconciliations
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accounting accuracy and resolve issues as they arise
- Oversee cash receipt postings, tenant billing, billing adjustments, and tenant ledger reconciliations as necessary
- Review and approve invoice coding and workflows to ensure timely payments to vendors
- Provide timely accounting details and analysis to internal and external auditors, as well as clients
- Support research on accounting regulations and laws across different states, ensuring compliance
- Manage ad hoc projects, monthly close processes, and other property accounting needs
- Mentor and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and high performance
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in institutional or real estate accounting (property management experience is a plus)
- Proven leadership experience in managing accounting teams and overseeing multiple clients or regions
- Strong proficiency in Excel, Google Suite, and accounting software
- High attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting
- Strong adaptability and effectiveness in varying environments, tasks, and responsibilities
- Excellent planning, organizational, and multitasking skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to build strong client relationships and provide excellent client service
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work comfortably in fast-paced and dynamic environments
- Ability to thrive in a start-up or fast-growth company environment
Location
- Thisposition is classified as REMOTE within the United States.
- Preference for candidates based in Oakland, CA, NYC, NY, or a Roofstock hub (Oakland, CA must be able to work HYBRID,with an expectation to be in-office on TuesdaysandThursdaysweekly)
Compensation
$100,000 - $120,000 range on annual base salary. The compensation range may be adjusted based on experience and location.

Our compensation reflects several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position represents the expected salary for this position. Ultimately, in determining your pay it will be based on several factors including location, job-related knowledge, skills, experience and other job related factors. Roofstock is a total compensation company; the base salary is only a part of our total compensation package.
