Job Overview
:Reporting to the Director of Accounting Operations, this position is responsible for all activities of the accounts payable function, including direct supervision of accounts payable personnel, recommending new practices, ensuring compliance, analyzing Accounts Payable GL accounts, and meeting agreed upon deadlines. This is a high-volume, fast-paced, customer-facing position with responsibilities for managing payables for Safe-Guard as well as our clients who outsource their accounting and payables function to Safe-Guard.
Direct interaction with external and internal clients is a daily activity for the Accounts Payable Manager, so strong communication skills with a customer-centric approach is required.
Job Responsibilities:
- Manage the effective operation and supervision of the Accounts Payable team, taking a “hands-on” approach when required.
- Drive leadership from within the team for change recommendations and implementation of revised procedures to improve the efficiency of the accounts payable function.
- Accountability for the work and development of the staff, including ensuring they are correctly trained to carry out their duties and responsibilities and company policies are followed.
- Maintain a culture of high customer service.
- Prioritize departmental timelines and duties.
- Ensure accurate vendor payments, proper coding, and compliance with internal controls.
- Build effective relationships with internal and external customers. Communicate effectively with all customers, advocate customer needs and initiate resolution.
- Implement and educate employees and management on new or updated policies and procedures.
- Work with vendors and internal staff to improve systems and resolve discrepancies.
- Manage monthly close of accounts payable and ensure unprocessed/outstanding invoices & expenses are properly accounted for.
- Manage commissions process to ensure timely and proper commissions payout amounts.
- Ensure timely, complete, and accurate 1099 and any other tax filings, including IRS TIN matching.
- Assist the payables team in resolving discrepancies by evaluating and approving investigations and resolving special cases.
- Review applicable accounting reports, registers, aging reports, etc. to ensure accuracy.
- Support the escheatment process as needed with check research, void and reissue requests, and other updates as required for final disposition of stale-dated checks.

Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of seven years’ experience with Accounts Payable; five at management level.
- Experience in an accounts payable function as a third-party administrator is desired.
- Hands-on experience with 1099 filings, travel & expense reimbursements, and escheatment.
- Ability to influence and collaborate well with others, interacting effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
- Highly detailed and accurate.
- Ability to handle significant volume of work.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with strong verbal and written communication aptitude.
- Experience with SharePoint and Concur a plus.
- Experience with mid-range to top-tier ERP systems including Microsoft Dynamics GP, Oracle, or Microsoft D365.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, etc. required
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S
- Must be able to successfully pass a background check
