Manual Machinist
We are seeking an outstanding Manual Machinist for our facility in West Austin. The desired applicant will have a solid foundation of machine operations, complex parts, and quality inspection practices.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Without supervision during the work period, machine parts made from aluminum, stainless steel, plastic and other exotic materials.
- Parts are highly complex and can include many angled, surfaces, pockets, steps tapers and related features on different planes.
- Parts will usually require more than one operation and loading schemes will be very complex.
- Must be able to read prints, perform complex dimensional calculations and understand and be able to read geometric dimensioning and tolerances.
- Machinist will load, unload and inspect parts.
- Machinist will be responsible for quality of the parts being produced and for achieving production standards.
- Position will require de-burring and polishing parts at the machine on some work.
- Machinist to report any equipment problems and perform equipment maintenance.
- Must understand and follow documented machinist and set-up procedures.
- There will be occasional weekend work and evening factory call ins.
- Must be able to remove broken screws with hand tools.
- On occasion must be able to perform work in cleanroom factory and work in clean room suit.
WHAT DOES THIS JOB ENTAIL?
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Can determine tool wear and perform tool changes as well as calculate tool offsets. Typically has to maintain dimensional tolerances less than or equal to +/- .001.
- Performs complicated setups with little assistance for jobs with single or multiple operations having tolerances greater than +/- .001.
- Responsible for machine and area housekeeping including cleaning the machine, removing chips from the machine, moving material and parts as necessary. Follow our 5s program.
- Standards for efficiency should be 98% or better. Scrap rates should be under 1%.
- Must be able to use all standard measurement tools to determine part quality. Must be able to calculate slopes and angles and perform complex inspection setups.
- Hurco CNC experience is a plus.
- Familiar with Bridgeport Mill, Hardinge and Leblond manual Lathe and Grinders is a plus.
- Able to single point threads on manual lathe.
- Able to use boring head on manual mill.
