A Better Opportunity


We are seeking a Securities and Corporate Transactions attorney to support Better’s General Counsel/Chief Compliance Officer, Chief Financial Officer and other senior executives relating to SEC reporting requirements, capital markets and corporate finance transactions. The attorney will work closely with the company’s Accounting and Treasury departments and with other business units as needed. The attorney must have extensive knowledge and experience with U.S. securities law matters, including public company periodic reporting requirements and be able to handle routine capital market transactions with minimal outside counsel assistance.

In addition, the attorney will work with outside counsel on more complex transactions, provide legal support for other corporate finance matters, such as credit agreements and derivative agreements, and assist with corporate governance matters. The attorney will work closely with our deputy general counsel of litigation and corporate transactions, and report to the General Counsel/CCO. The attorney chosen for this role will serve as a key leader within a Legal & Compliance team that is critical to ensuring our success during a pivotal stage of our company’s development. 

Responsibilities


  • Work in close partnership with GC/CCO on SEC reporting, corporate governance, board management and corporate transactions
  • Chair company is disclosure committee 
  • Provide legal support to Accounting, Treasury, Equity, Tax and other departments as needed
  • Advise on policy regarding U.S. securities laws
  • Vetting and managing outside counsel resources for complex corporate transactions and facilitating overall success of relationships
  • Assist with a variety of special projects

Qualifications


  • 4+ years of experience in law firm, corporate, or governmental environments collaborating with senior leaders
  • Experience in fintech or other start-up environments strongly preferred
  • JD from an accredited law school and active license to practice in New York, New Jersey or California
  • Strong leadership capabilities; we want to hear about things that would have never happened if you were not there to motivate a group of people to do them
  • Consistent track record of work in a fast-paced environment and the ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent project management and task tracking skills
  • Unassailable integrity and confidentiality
  • Ability to think outside of the box in difficult situations
  • Prior mortgage experience is a plus

$194,000 - $275,000 a year
